    Could be.

The Hoppes shortage is probably caused by a couple of things. An extra 3 million new gun owners needing cleaning supplies and hoarders stocking up because they are fearful of a shortage, not realizing they are causing the shortage. Kind of a self fulfilling prophecy. Bob

Hoppes is great for lead, carbon (to some degree) and general cleaning of most 22's and handguns. I use it for that purpose.

I could not believe my own eyes when I took a super cleaned rifle barrel (cleaned with Montana Extreme) and hit it with WIPEOUT spray bore cleaner. I let it sit per instructions, it is a foam, non-toxic and won't harm stocks or actions. The first patch came out soaked in dark blue copper. WIPEOUT is my go to now.

Once you try it you will not use any other bore cleaners, it really is that good.

And way too expensive for what I'm doing. If I was worried about copper in my personal rifle I would try the wipe Out but that's not what I'm doing. I have Montana Extreme and Sweets 7.62 but almost never use them.

I too was amazed at the results of Wipe-Out.I just thought my guns were clean.

If you get them too clean the metallurgy will be disrupted and they will collapse into something akin to silly putty. The atoms go all crazy and stuff.

The next time you roast a possum you can catch the "drippings" from the bottle with a Folgers Black Silk coffee can and use that for anything like lubrication, barrel cleaning and actually as a sauce for tacos. Kind of a 3 in 1 oil. Plus an excellent laxative.

Can't stand the stuff, and unlike Ricci, I don't use it for aftershave on date night. From Nononsense I learned about Bore Tech Eliminator. https://www.boretech.com/products/eliminator-bore-cleaner That is my go to for everything except black powder. Great rods too.

Around $15.00 for 32 oz. I see Amazon has it listed as "Unavailable" now.

Why the shortage? "Well, work is shut down. I can't go out. Hey! Why don't I clean my guns?"

I saw that. Maybe we all need to take up a collection of our partial bottles and send to the poor ol' kid.

At least he wont have to waste any on his buddies guns.

I really don't want to pay $30.00 for a quart. That would buy a decent bottle of red wine. It's ridiculous what gun chemicals cost. Maybe I will just mix up a 5 gal bucket.

I likely violated the rules with my earlier post, so I've edited it down to the following:

    I like Hoppe's #9....

I have an extra quart, but you'd spend more on gas then $17 on the 8 hour round trip. AL

There is a recipe for "Ed's Red". It was in a "Gun Digest" revolver book. Seemed to work well for me, Easy to mix, especially if you leave the Lanolin out. Common products at hardware or auto parts store.

Wont do what I need. I need to be able to wipe a nasty old gun down all over and ed red will wreck wood.
