How much would it take for you to sell out?
I don’t have an extensive collection like some of you. Most of my guns are shooters. Most I didn’t pay over three figures for. I do have quite a bit of reloads and components for various calibers. Watching some of the crazy prices that things are bringing, I got to thinking, what if someone made me an offer I couldn’t refuse?
I came up with a figure that probably wouldn’t be impossible to fathom during this crazy time.
Without disclosing your figure, can you guys think of what it would take?

I understand, forge, and those should be excluded from consideration.

Only 3 of my guns aren't easily replaceable, (2 inherited, a marlin and a 1918 sporter the experts identified for me a few years back and an original Sterling SMG semi-auto) the rest could be replaced and have thought of selling some at these prices, but most likely won't since even though they are common, why risk the prices ever getting back to what I paid....

I bought what I have because I wanted them. I'll sell when I want my life style changes and I need to reduce, or because I want something else. That said I only have a few firearms that have any personal attachment for me. So if someone offered enough money there are several that could be bought. However I am not going to actively try to sell any just because prices went up.

I have been putting off downsizing my modest collection for a couple of years. If I was hurting financially, today's prices would be tempting. It seems like there is a politician or crisis that increases demand and prices every few years so if I just let them sit in the safe for now I probably won't lose anything. If someone tomorrow were to give me an outrageous offer on one of them, I might sell it, but I have no plans to advertise or sell at this time. Bob

I could sell half of my stuff and easily pay off my house...

I could sell about 75% of my guns and never miss a beat. I really don't need three .357 Magnum handguns but I would never sell the 6" S&W 686 or the 5" Ruger GP 100. Having several AR 15's is also in the "not needed" category. I could part with a few 9MM's a couple of 22 rifles and several shotguns, but why bother. I have two sons that will eventually get them so to heck with it. I will keep them all until it becomes a moot point.

If they are worth X today, they will be worth XX tomorrow !

I had a large number of Winchesters that I sold during the New Haven plant closing craze, should have kept a few. Today's collection is much more lean and consists of shooters. Shooting is one of the few things I truly enjoy, so I really doubt any number would buy me out.

I collected guns my entire career for my retirement and I have been retired now for 13 years.
Several of the guns I have never shot and most of the others haven't been fired in 20 years.
And it's a fact of life, my hunting and shooting time on earth is limited and I'd rather not burden my wife with disposing of them.
To answer your question... make me an offer, it won't take me long to arrive at a figure.
I have an inventory of my guns that I used to update my will, 3 years ago, when told I had 2 weeks to live. 😉 (I hate to be lied to.)
I reserve the right to retain possession of a couple hunting rifles...well, three...or four...maybe five....
And I require a carry gun...well two - one for summer and one for winter, Oh, a backup for each... a couple little pistols for funerals and weddings. And a few hunting pistols. And at least two Glocks for competition.
Ok, ok...I could sell a couple.

I sold a few a while back. Kept a few. No money can buy those.

I have only one that is not for sale and I have told my son, when I am gone, he can keep em all or sell em all but one. That one I would like him to keep is his Grandpas 686.

Coming into touch with my mortality I have none I wouldn't sell but wifey says she wants to keep them all so it becomes her choice into the future.

I would need to sell them to benefit my family.
I sold alot of guns when I was going for college, I haven’t replaced most of them to this day. So not real fond of selling guns without a direct means to an end.

In the past 2 or 3 years I have sold about 30 A-5s,Model 11s and Savage 720s and have done very well on them.

Thanks to Locust Fork, I was able to redirect quite a bit of my collection a year or so ago.
Bought low, sold high.
Still have a decent collection and around 80 rounds of ammo. 😉

Like Forge said I have a few that would never be for sale. I have been doing well financially so the high prices are not too tempting right now. That being said if money was tight I wouldn't hesitate to sell half or more. I enjoy having them, so no selling out for me.

Sell out? If I had any left after the boating accident, I'd let them go cheap!

started thinking about it when I was furloughed and not knowing when I might get called back and watching the savings account shrink. There is 3 that I would never part with Dad's old Winchester, Grandpa's old Remington 22and my first deer rifle the Savage170

About ten years ago I bought a couple of wood and blue Ruger 77's. Then my first grandson was born in 2012. I decided I would try to get a wood and blue 77 in each caliber made to leave to him. It was fun finding all the different calibers in excellent condition and variations, taking my time in making good purchases. Except for the big magnum calibers, I have them all (calibers, not all the variations). The two hardest for me to find at a reasonable price was the 6.5 Rem Mag and 7.62x39. Then it got to the point that I couldn't find one any nicer than what I had, so the fun was no longer in it. I have talked to his parents and they believe it would be more sentimental to the grandson if he only had a dozen or so instead of ????. I decided to thin the herd and get rid of some duplicates so I met Locust Fork in Memphis a few weeks back with some duplicates and a variety of other manufacturers. I will always keep one of each caliber nor will I ever get rid of my Browning 25-06 that I deer hunt with or the couple of my dad's guns and my mom's 22 rifle I have. It was very hard to take the 77's to her. It almost felt like I was taking something from my grandson but I know it was time.

I've started selling off the insignificant that normally would be a hard sell. I really hate to part with any, but it's getting easier. Just can't turn down easy money.

This year just might be a mad rush to socialism. I figure 20% of the US owns 80% of the firearms. This is going to be a weird year.

I have more than 6 and less than 100........I started at 6 because I have 6 that mean enough to me to not sell at any price. I could sell a lot of what I have.......especially ammo........and make a tidy profit right now....but I fear that I could not replace it in the future, for what I paid for it, or would sell it for. I think prices will only keep going up. That being said........If someone offered me 4x - 5x what I have in my head as a value...........I would think about it.

Will keep the heirlooms, one of each for hunting, personal protection, and enough ammo to last my lifetime. All the rest can be had for 3x their pre-madness valuations. However, I’m not investing the time and effort to offload anything...rather spend time with my family...and I always seem to sell guns that I later end up replacing.

What are you offering?😁

Some could go, some wouldn't.
But ALL......never.

80 percent of my guns I inherited so I can't see me being the smuck that sells off my family guns that date back to 1892. Great grandpa, grandpa and my uncle would come out of their graves and get me if I did.

I have a few I hate to see go, but around a million and somebody else has them all.

Complete "sell out"?
No amount of money is "enough". Same answer with my land. A man's gotta have something that's worth more than money.

My 2 cents.
You have an item, one or many, cars, land, guns, anything of value.
Sell them and the very first thing you know you have neither the items nor the money.
