I never knew it could be so much work to try and do a good thing. The pressure has been on me to make sure Judy and I could put on our "Bust Em" for breast cancer clays shoot this year. For the last 6 months I have scoured and searched the country to get 12&20 gauge target loads at a decent price for the shooters. I found a bunch at twice or more the old normal price but held off buying because every extra dollar spent comes out of the amount we raise and donate.

In my garage there now resides 20 cases of target loads. I was able to piggyback on the order someone else finally got delivered. I got them for basically the wholesale price as long as I promised not to resell them for a profit. That is certainly not a problem and the 50 bucks or so we saved on each case can now go into the charity fund. That will work out to a 1000 bucks that will be put to good use supporting cancer patient families. I may have a few more grey hairs from worrying about this but I will sleep better tonight.😊 Bob

    Thanks guys - Getting those shells feels like a weight has been lifted off of my shoulders. The folks that helped me get them don't want their identity revealed. Shells are in such short supply and hard to get that they don't want every local Tom, Dick and Harry making up stories to try and get some for their personal use at this price. Great people, but I will abide by their wishes.

    The first year we switched our shoot proceeds to a local charity Judy and I went to the banquet that they have for all the organizations that contribute. They also have some of the recovering patients there as well. Judy and I and one of our other club members sat at a table with 6 or so ladies recovering from breast cancer. They ranged in age from 18 to 65. A couple of them proudly wore their baldness from the treatments and others wore wigs or hats. The upbeat attitude they had was phenomenal. I mentioned that to one of them and she said that it was easy to have a good attitude when so much of the community was pulling for them to recover.

    The charity doesn't pay medical bills other than the occasional drug co-payment. Instead it supports the whole family with their other needs. Wigs for the patients, sometimes paying a utility bill, car repairs so they can get to their treatments, support for their kids or in some cases for their parents when the patient is just a kid herself and anything else that they can do to get the family through the trying time. People sometimes forget the toll cancer can have on the whole family, both financially and emotionally. By the way 100% of the funds raised are used for the cause, with no money used for "administrative" costs like you see in most other charities.

    Sorry to be so long winded and I am not looking for a pat on the back - I guess I am just using the forum to get my jumbled but relieved thoughts together. Bob
