Another great character actor. Deliverance was his defining role, but not because of the rape. There is a scene in the film where the survivors are discussing ways to cover up the events which took place.
Beatty's line "My god. There's no end to it." struck home.
Once you get into a lie, there is no way out of it. A few GB forum members should have paid attention to that!

He played John Goodman's father on "Roseanne", too. I think character actors get more steady work than stars do, even if they don't get paid as much.
