Have you seen the new Ford Maverick??
The Ford Maverick was revealed Tuesday as a compact hybrid truck. It'll get a combined 500 miles of range on a single tank of gas thanks to its hybrid engine. While city driving that equates to about 40 miles per gallon. It doesn't have a plug-in battery, so it recharges while braking or when coasting downhill, just like the quintessential hybrid, the Toyota Prius.
However, this is a five-seater, truck that can haul 1,500 pounds in the bed, or tow 2,000 pounds (that bumps up to 4,000 pounds with a bigger engine and all-wheel drive) behind it. It also has a cheaper starting price than the hybrid Prius: $19,995. The Prius starts at about $25,000.
The Maverick is a lot smaller than the electric Lightning; it's just under 200 inches long and only 68.4 inches tall. The Lightning, which has an electric motor, is more than 230 inches long and stands more than 75 inches tall.
As Ford execs kept repeating during a media presentation ahead of the reveal, the Maverick is "a truck for people who never knew they needed a truck."
Inside, there's an embedded modem for WiFi hotspots and both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are available on the eight-inch touchscreen. There's wireless charging for smartphones in the center divide.
The storage space in the car is purposeful with room for a large water bottle in the door. Underneath the backseats is even more storage, and the seats can fold to fit a bicycle inside the main compartment.

Take off the Ford emblem and add either a Toyota, Nissan, or any other.....Nothing really new to look at as far as I can see..
But hey it is not as Ugly as the old ones from the 70's

yes, top end package comes in at 35,000. I would love to have one. Nice looking small truck for a decent price. you can get the lower end package and add 4x4 for less, just not sure the price on that.

Looks like a Honda Ridgeline. They are nice vehicles I have a Golfing buddy who has one and its nice.

one of departed uncles ( RIP uncle Tom your truly missed , he started of my car love affairs and racing ' )bought a new then 70 maverick 302 4 speed . he changed the gearing added a few parts ( headers, bigger carb and cam ) a real bright green with black stripes he traded a 67 GT 390 4 speed Fairlane in it then later traded the maverick for a 70 or 71 429 Torino 4 speed .. I would love to have all those cars now ,
as for the truck does look a bit like Honda

I have a 2017 Ridgeline and it is all the truck I need anymore and for a daily driver it is a lot better then the F250 I use to drive been quite happy with it

Remembering the Maverick "Grabber" back in the day. My buddy had another very cool version of the car known as the "MOD" Maverick. His was candy apple red and was a stunning example IMHO. I may be a bit biased as I had a 70 straight 6, 3 on the tree in a very light powder puff blue. Bought 2nd hand from a gal and had to add a black racing stripe in order to hang on to my man card! 😐️
As for remaking the Maverick as a truck, I would say that Ford must be in the same boat as Hollywood having no original ideas left in their bag of tricks.

It's a cheap uni-body truck and has a cvt transmission with a hybrid engine which means a light rear end with a battery to replace after a few years. That's why you get a 40 Mpg EPA rating. Stay out of high water Hopefully the electrical motor is mounted high in the engine bay along with the battery.

the 4x4 version does NOT have the hybrid motor, and i dont THINK it has the CVT tranny. The 4x4 has the turbo 4 cylinder motor, not gonna get 40mph but prob still gets good MPH for a 4x4 vehicle. Yea, they are cheap and thats why the price is lower. I would like one in 4x4, priced around 22,000. I am curious what the tranny is and what the MPH is for the 4x4 version.

I had a 1981 el camino back in the day . Pretty good comprimise between a car and truck back then Would not mind owning another one . It did everything i needed a vehicle to do then and would serve well today

Funny how they have the technology to get a half ton truck that is well built to be over 35 miles Ultra low EPA rating combine but won't do it? The military gets it but not the civilian market! Ford has a better idea? Yeah keep it off the market.

I COULD be wrong, but i think the military also has less stringent rules on "carbon" emission. If they removed most of the green energy crap, then todays motors would get better MPG....especially diesel engines. BUT I do agree, there is technology out there that someone doesnt want us to have, be it the oil company, govt, or whoever. There are reasons some advancements never make it to market, and most have to do with control.

If it came with a standard transmission, it would be about perfect.
Like the Ford Ranger I bought new in 1984. It came with a 2.8l. 6 cylinder and a 4 speed manual transmission. My dad bought one just like mine a few months after I bought mine. Both went well over 200,000 miles (mostly trouble free).
