The card co will make it right quickly.

Just be sure you give them the opportunity to do so.

Yes, credit cards are much better instead of using a debit card - just for this reason.

Had something like this happen a few weeks ago. The credit card co caught it and denied.

They issued a new card with new #.

Of course I had to contact the companies I had auto pay through and change everything.

What a pain, but better than........

This may sound like a stupid question, but - when the credit card companies "make you whole", where does the money come from?

I assume the vendor still gets paid. It is not their fault somebody used your card.

You don't have to pay (except for card fees).

Does "everybody" pay (usually due to the increased fees for using the card - 3% ?)

Naturally, the only one that probably does NOT pay is the thief.

Between the fees they charge the merchant, ( 1 1/2 - 3% ) and the fees they charge the customer, ( 16% average ) they can afford it. I use a credit card for most of my purchases but never carry a balance. Those that carry a balance and pay that horrible interest rate are paying for my convenience and security. Bob

Bob, thanks for the reply. Like you - I also do not carry a balance . . . so I forgot about the interest rates for those that only pay the "minimum amount" per month.

I disagree, we have had our accounts stolen, and have gotten all our money back. Our credit union has an awesome fraud division. We have gotten calls within 4-5 minutes from them when suspicious looking charges were made. Couple times it has been crooks, but most of the time it was us.

Got 150 bucks credit on Amazon for getting a card in their name that costs me nothing, I love the points, we use them to travel. Never had a issue with a fraud charge that wasn't made right ASAP

The chargeback will come out of the vendor's account. In this case Walmart.

YES. yes I would. I'm all for making hacking, CC theft, and all the other sneak thief digital crimes' punishment so wicked and painful that no one will continue committing these crimes. Cut off some hands, gouge out some eyes, you know-the good stuff and do it w/o anesthesia. Post the results on "social media", TV news, and billboards so all those criminals can see what happens.

Wife and I got new cards overnighted from Ohio this afternoon. I only had two accounts to update, cell phone and Dollar Shave Club. We've never paid any interest on the card account in over 20 years, but they insisted on sending the cards via UPS.
