Sorry for somebody's loss.
Never heard of him. Couple clips I just watched, didn't find him funny.
But what I think doesn't matter one iota. Someone loved him and that's all that matters.

He had his own brand of humor. "Some" of his stuff was very funny. He was cut off on I believe on the Ed Sullivan show to allow LBJ to announce something or another. When he came back on he gave the finger sulute🤣

If you remember watching that movie "The Jerk" with Steve Martin, he was the guy who owned the gas station that hired Martin and put him up in the places store room.
Kind of a dumb movie to rewatch nowdays, but it was funny at the time. Mason's wife in the movie was a real "Hooter" 😜

I remember him from back on the Ed Sullivan Show, and a few other variety shows. I can't say that he was all that funny though.
