Wow! That's quite a trench that washed out. Hope fully the geo dudes figure out that your house is okay to return to. I hope even more that if they do say it's safe that they know their business and are accurate!

Holy moly! Good luck with everything, trawler. With those views of the mountains, I see why you like it up there.

Thanks for the update. Beautiful but potentially dangerous area. Best of luck to you for whatever the future holds.

Awesome pictures. Man looks like a LOT of work to do. Got to be rough on all. Wish you and all the best that can be.

Flying Clay disk asked if we were home when the slide occurred.

Yes, we were both home and in the garage. The sound was very loud and is hard to describe. The slide was fairly fast, faster than a person can run and came in two stages. First was a huge movement like someone pulling a large, thick blanket into the ocean. A few minutes later there was a second slide of fallen trees, rocks, and mud that came very fast like objects going down a water slide. We were fortunate that the slide did miss our home but our driveway was covered and a large woodshed was destroyed, two boats were gone and our septic tank and drain field were damaged and covered with debris. We headed down the beach away from the slide and were picked up by a fishing boat. There had been about 10 inches of rain the previous 48 hours and about 4 feet of snow melt prior to the slide. Thanks to all who replied.

I think I remember that. Was it when a whole part of a small "peninsula", with several houses on it just slid into the ocean? If I remember right, there was a pretty dramatic video.

    Can you/someone post the video?

The video you refer to was a slide in Norway. Our slide was very much like that one.

Here is the link to the video:

Thanx for the update trawler. Prayers for the best possible news from the (hopefully VERY competent) geogeeks. It's possible not alot was learned from the Oso, Washington slide of 2014. It's perhaps more likely that, no matter how much we study and predict, mother nature will do as she will.

I remember your post when this first happened, I hope you are successful in getting a way back in to the house and that it will be safe when you do.
