Neighbor Kid Just Bought Three Gama Goats.....
Well he ain't a kid, he's 30 years old, but that's a kid to me. Anyway, he bought these things, and the people he bought them from bought them from a federal auction in Alaska 25-30 years ago. They have Arctic(?) equipment. They all have hard cabs, diesel fired cab heaters, diesel fired engine heaters, and engine coolant heated battery heaters. Two have been sitting outside for 20+ years, and one has been in an open front shed. He was able to get all to start and they loaded onto his lowboy under their own power. Along with them comes 20 brand new tires (old no doubt) mounted on new wheels, which have been stored inside.

I remember driving those at Ft. Riley in 77 we had our cable reels in the trailer part and backing those things up was real fun when you added another trailer to them... like a snake going in reverse. After that I went to other bases and the communication folks had moved up to deuce and a halves with trailers, did not miss those gamma goats at all.

No, he just likes weird crap. He's gonna clean 'em up and "flip" them, or maybe part some of them out. They are powered by aluminum block 4-53 Detroit Diesels, which are coupled to a four speed transmission. His research tells him that those engine/transmission units are quite popular with the rat rod crowd, and sell for around $2,500 if they run. They also have titles, and are street legal, so that floats some people's boat.
