So many lives, some many injuries and so much money that could have rebuilt schools, roads, bridges in OUR country. Pathetic, simply pathetic. Both sides of the aisle have blood on their hands and they could care less.

Having fought such a war, the hardest part was trying to tell the "good" guys from the bad ones. So, the upside of all this is that now it's a foregone conclusion that they're ALL the enemy. If we ever have to punish them for something they do to us here, there's no moral dilemma about who not to target.

No they didn't they just supported and harbored an enemy who killed 3000+ Americans in one day and many more before that. They were just the most repressive regime on Earth at the time. And fighting them there kept them from coming here.

Those American lives were not wasted. What was wasted was the effort to bring these animals into the 18th century.

Having been one of the first to go in to the area I was hoping we would just kill as many as we could, bomb their towns into wreckage , destroy what little infrastructure they have, use chemicals to kill their heroin fields and kill all the tribal chiefs along with their family's. Then they would fear us.

The majority of those people you you want to kill are harmless citizens who wish us no ill will. I don't want to see another bloodbath just because we can with our massive military and self-righteous attitude. The handful of El Qaida Arabs who attacked us ran off and left the Afghans to our whims. The Taliban as our mortal enemy was our own choice and has proven tough to remove because they are the Afghans who were running the country. I don't want any more Americans sent off to die killing people just because they are different.

"I don't want any more Americans sent off to die killing people just because they are different."

SERIOUSLY! That's what you think we did? The people that killed people because they were different are the people that orchestrated and carried out the killing of over 3000 Americans.

IMO The mistake we made was staying behind and attempting to help them. We should have killed the bastards involved, the government that gave them shelter and anyone who gave support of any kind then left those still alive to to deal with it on their own. We should have put the world on notice: We will, without remorse, destroy those that attack us.

Now that the Taliban are showing them selves in larger numbers and not hiding.

Think its time for some drones to be used to pin point and some Cruise Missiles, to be judiciously used.

Yep, or as Billie Boy Sherman use to say " You have to make those Rebels bleed, then they will understand". I am from Richmond, a Rebel and we burned it down.

Nephew is Command Sgt. Major. Was first into Iraq from Jordan to take out radar. Was 5th SF Group and trained SF Troops. CO killed instantly sitting beside him by IED entering Green Zone. Twelve years for what? Sometimes he disappears from the face of the earth. We don't know where he is.

My 1st cousin and fishing buddy KIA Vietnam 11/23/1967. Same old crap. I wished we could have him back the way he was but we can't. I was the lucky one, too short to extend.---------------------------------------Ray

We had to invade Afghanistan. 9/11 was launched from there. We should have gone in, destroyed as many Taliban as possible hopefully including bin Laden, the war should have taken about a month. Then, President George should have given a speech at the UN, saying that we would remain for one year.

Then, we rebuild a dozen schools and hospitals and the important roads. And then gotten out. Yes I know the stories about all the girls that have graduated from high school in the past 20 years. We have brought Western ideas of freedom to these people. But, the country itself is a bunch of Muslim savages stuck in the 8th century, and when we leave all the girl's schools will be closed, the girls will have to put the burkha back on, and many of those who had the temerity to teach at a girl's school, In violation of the Koran, will be executed.

We didn't do any more good in Afghanistan that England did in 1885, or than Russia did in 1980.

Tell us about your service in theater or if you served at all since you seem to be smart on what's happening over there.

    When were you there?

I didn't see one American who was there in the almost 3 years I was there who didn't want to be there and who had not volunteered to be in the Military. No one was forced, oh there may have been a few publicity seeking pukes who got deployed but not too many.

We were there to Avenge the worst sneak attack/terrorist attack in world history. Did you know more People died on 9/11 than have died in the Afgan war(US deaths).

So, we (USA) went there for revenge for 9/11. Somehow we singled out Afghanistan as the place. After 20years, how did that work out. Afghanistan is a British creation. They're just a loose cluster of tribes. I remember claims that we would create a great shining democracy there and therefore we needed to invade and conquer and in a snap they would change. Well now we can join Britain and Russia on the list of those that tried and didn't. And those that died on 9/11 are still dead. If things were going to change there it would have happened. It was a bad idea in 2001 and it's been proven.

Do you know more Americans died avenging 9/ll? How is killing people who had nothing to do with 9/11 anything other than murder? Sure it was a volunteer army at the time but once in you go where your country sends you. I am done playing word games.

For the perpetrators of 9/11 we should have sought revenge in Cairo.

Yep, and they used our stingers to shoot the Russki Choppers down and tore up the Russki convoys on the mountain passes. Finally the families in the USSR (?) said "Enough, bring our boys home"-------------------------------------------Ray

    My 2 cents.

The US should not be policing other countries. Viet Nam was a policing action and so is the the sand box theater.

Both times our military was hog tied by the media and political correctness.

These folks have benn killing their own over religion since the beginning of time, not going to stop until the end of time.

Please understand they are many many great people of all colors and beliefs, their business how they live and carry or their life style. Killing each other is the way of life for many, let'em have at it.

The entire number of folks we were trying to protect is not worth one American life.

Bring our men and women home, protect our borders and allies, then nuke the he!! out of anyone that threatens us.

    Enough said.

I guess according to some of ya'll here we should have stayed out of WW2 also. Maybe thanked the IJN for showing us our weak spots at Pearl Harbor.

Wonder if Covid would slow down them bad ones.

Covid is a natural thing, not chemical warfare.

I say quit trying to buy their love, cut the funding and let them hate us for free.

Time to start thinking about taking care of America citizens instead of policing the whole world.

WWII was a declared war not a police action. Force showed the enemies what was what.

And yes it was a terible thing to nuke the 2 Japanese cities.

My dad served in the European theater in WWII. Never talked about what he had to do nor what he saw but a few months before he passed at the age of 95, today would have been his 98th birthday, with tears in his eyes said "we blew the hell out everything in sight from England to Italy". Adds to the saying war is hell.

President George the Stupid. Started the Iraq War, one of the biggest foreign policy mistakes in US history. A fool.

We have proven that we as a nation are now incapable of winning a war in 20 years against a two-bit opponent. And we thought Korea and Vietnam were bad. It just gets worse and worse. And it will continue to do so until we put military actions and decisions back in the hands of the military instead of in the suits in DC.
