I hear you. We bought all KA appliances. When I call for service, they don't have any in our area and none will travel. They had to authorize a local guy to come out. Hah, 5 weeks. So I went to the reboot dept. Just unplugged it for a few hours & then it worked again. Hope I didn't just jinx myself.

I got my very first credit card from Sears back in 1974 to buy my new wife a washing machine. It was oh so exciting back then! Now days I would rather get a tooth pulled than shop for appliances!

    I must be spoiled! 🙂

There is a small appliance shop in town here , if I need one or a repair I call them.

    No hassles good prices

Unfortunately, most newer appliances are "disposable". Our washer started making "noises" a year ago and those chirps and grumbles turned into grinds and squawks. Finally, replaced with another similar unit and after the old one was removed and upturned, the problem was clear. It was never meant to be a 20 year lifespan due to the design. Tub was resting on urethane bushings which of course aged and failed.

The only local repair guy told me it's cheaper to replace than to pay him to fix it and have to wait months on parts which may not fit anyway.

They are a pain for sure......when we retired and move down to MO, we renovated the kitchen and bought all new Whirlpool appliances. Big Mistake.....In less than 4 years of use we have already replaced the Microwave and washing machine. The fridge has been repaired twice...main board died and the ice maker crapped out.....

The place that sold everything to us is out of business now.....luckily the other appliance store in our area will come and work on things as needed...

got a good friend of family who is also a repairman, he will show up same day or next morning at the latest, if something breaks, have gone to the point of putting money in his toolbox when he gets ready to leave, as he won't take anything for the repairs but whatever parts cost him wholesale.....

The compressor went belly up on our refrigerator in March. It lasted 12 years so I wasn't p.o.ed to much until I was told that it would be at least 3 months for a new compressor. So off to the appliance stores to find a new refrigerator. Covid strikes again - none to be found. Fortunately one of Judys childhood friends owns an appliance store. He just got 12 in but they were actually all spoken for. However one was for a new build and the house was way behind schedule. He didn't feel like storing it for 6 months, so he let us buy it. The combination of production and shipping slow downs plus free government money made it a bad time to look for appliances. My advice, at least for now, is if you can fix it and keep it working you will be quite a bit ahead of the game in this economy. Bob

Appliance nightmare. My Kenmore dishwasher (Whirlpool) of 23 years has finally grown tired. I do all my own repairs on all my appliances. No repairs ever needed on this dishwasher. I know, I know , some here dislike the brand but I have had nothing but good luck with Whirlpool. Perhaps because the older stuff was made better.

I remodeled kitchen about 20 years ago and it is wall to wall Bisque appliances. Yep, the ladies all want Granite and Stainless now days. If I wanted cheaper Bisque dishwasher must wait about six weeks for delivery. Very little Bisque out there. The expensive Bisque Whirlpool available date is May 2022. Give me a break!

Was thinking about a low profile Whirlpool over the stove micro-wave. Again no Bisque. Maybe I will just take the Black panels to body shop and have them painted Bisque.

Lets face it, the ladies control what goes in their kitchens and elsewhere for that matter. I know it all comes down to a Fad and supply and demand but I am growing tired of the silly games that Corporate America is playing.

Been washing dishes by hand for a month now. I had plenty of OJT in Army. Married living off post and still had to pull KP once in a while, I just may cut a panel, match my cabinets and put it where dishwasher was. And Corporate America, you know where they can go.-----------------------------Ray

AND most of the late model computer controlled appliances will generate a error code of their illness if you can figure out how to operate a combination of steps, including a rain dance for a washing machine to get it to give up it's problems.

    What a mess.

AND I know of some $2000 appliances such as refrigerators that will just barely get past their warranty period and zap. Appears top be designed into them.

Suspect Russia is hacking into some of them appliances.

Biden will tell Putin to take care of them appliance hackers or else.

Ahhh! The 70's colored appliances! 😁 That pukey green that they called avocado! The golden baby poop ones were sunburst IMMIC, and then there was bronze for a dark brownish paint finish.

A few years ago (probably 25) I bought an Amana refrigerator and thought I was buying white. It came delivered and turned out to be "almond" 😕 When I called in protest wanting either to exchange it or just send it back the salesman knocked 350 bucks off the price. Back then that was close to half off and even my wife said OK to that!

A guy I know purchased a new refrigerator from Lowes a few weeks ago. They delivered it and after a few minutes of shuffling his food from the old to the new, hauled his old one away. He went to get something out of the refrigerator a couple hours later and noticed it wasn't getting cold. Come to find out there wasn't a compressor in the new refrigerator. Either it left the factory like that or someone removed it during it's journey along the way. 😀

Mom raised 5 children and used the same Kenmore washer for close to 25 years before it died . I have owned all kemmore all.of my adult life ,i am 66 now

The refrigerator seemed to be losing its coldness even after cleaning underneath and turning up the temp dial. It was a Maytag model that came with the house when I bought the place. Decided quickly to buy a new one and settled on a GE brand that was on sale at the Home Depot.

The delivery guys set everything up and offered to take the old one with them and I nearly let it go. After it had been carted down the many steps of my high deck to the driveway in front of my garage, I got the notion that a garage fridge for keeping cold beverages would be very nice! So, they wheeled it into the garage and left. Waited a couple days to let things thaw out, I then set up my compressor for some high pressure air blasting. Blew out every crack and crevice that two door box had and plugged it in. 3 years later, the beer has never been colder! 😊

You can get a dishwasher that is designed to have a cabinet panel attached to the door. If you're gonna build and match a panel to the cabinets there might as well be something useful behind it!

Our Kenmore Refrigerator and clothes dryer are both over 30 years old. I considered buying new when we moved 15 years ago and I’m glad we didn’t. Our first house was brand new with a new dishwasher which we never used. We sold the house after 15 years and never even turned the dishwasher on. When we bought this house I pulled out the dishwasher and replaced it with a cabinet.

Believe i or not years ago Kenmore came with three colored panels on door. You just chose the one you want and tuck the others behind it. I don't think Whirlpool will do this. I assume you mean unstained wood panel as opposed to painted metal panel?-----------Ray

Nope, they come ready for you to put on the panel of your choosing. I've done a few custom kitchen remodels over the years that the customer used this option. You have the cabinet builder build a panel according to the specs the dishwasher folks give you and it mounts to the front of the dishwasher. Usually this type of machine has the controls on top of the door.

    Here's an example;

KitchenAid 24 in. Panel Ready Top Control Built-in Dishwasher with Stainless Steel Tub and ProScrub Option, 46 dBA-KDTE204EPA - The Home Depot
Forget stooping to reach your favorites with KitchenAid's bottom freezer refrigerator. All your fresh foods are front and center. Even getting to the ice cream is no longer a rocky road, thanks to the

This one's kinda spendy, but it's just one of dozens available.

We just bought all new Kitchenaid appliances for our new place. Everything but a 'fridge. Came in at under 10K and we purchased some of their top shelf equipment.

So I guess I wasn't the only guy to enjoy KP 4205raymond. I would get up a hour or two early and sit next to the mess hall door so I could sign up for DRO.

    😕

I have know guys that paid half a months pay for someone to take their place on KP so they could paint the town red on a Friday night with that special girl.😉------------------Ray

As only an E-4 back in '65 I really needed the extra cash. 16 oz Hamms (😝) was just $0.15 at the NCO club though.
