What Barrel to order
I have a spare upper receiver here figure it is time to to build a complete upper. I already have 6.5 Grendel 300 Ham'r and 450 Bushmaster my candidates are .224 valkyrie,350 legend and 6.8spc thought about 458 socom but I'm to chicken to enlarge the ejection port. Main use will be for Deer and Hog hunting

For close in deer and hog I would get the 350. I like the idea of a bigger hole and heavier bullet. Also I have actually seen 350 ammo for sale at what passes for reasonable prices nowadays. Bob

The 350 sound interesting. Two weeks ago I stopped at Walmart to get a PA unpowered boat tax tag and low and behold they had eight 100 round boxes of Win 22lr and a stack of 350 Legend.

Found a great deal on a 18" shaw 350 legend barrel 175.00 including shipping so that is the route I went

Two days ago Harriman, NY Walmart only thing in Ammo cabinets was a bunch of 350, Winchester I think. Somebody some place must really be cranking them out.---------------------Ray

Unless you live in one of the backward states (straight wall cartridge for deer hunting), I don't see much merit in the .350.
If you're looking for a good deer round, I can heartily recommend the 6.8 SPC. We have 3 (2x 16" carbines and a 11" pistol). As far as I'm concerned, this is the best deer capable cartridge that fits the AR15 platform.--better than the Grendel IMHO.
The Valkyrie is a noticeable step up from a 5.56/.223 and I suppose it could be an OK deer round if you can find the 90(?) grain Federal hunting ammo. No clue as to the suitability of the 90 grain MSR game bullets since that's not why I have a .224V. For varmints, it'll add 40-50 yards to the "hold on brown" range vs .223. The 60 grain Federal varmint ammo is topnotch in my rifle. There's some Federal 75 grain FMJ showing up at a decent price and it's OK accurate. I recently received a case each of the 60 grain varmint and 75 grain FMJ that had been on backorder for over a year.
