Yes we do down south. You can tell when hurricane season is near cause we paint new numbers on the sides of our house trailers getting for the hurricane races. That's why we always leave the wheels and tires on our houses. They can get going pretty dang fast in a 140 mph wind.

Up here in Michigan it is a big insult to be referred to as trailer trash. So now all the trailer trash call themselves mobile home residents. There are some decent mobile home communities but they are out numbered by the renamed trailer parks that are full of trash. Bob

Had numerous mobile homes that were used for rentals.. thru the yrs. Was at a car auction and ran across some folks that called their place a Mobile Home Park. I always referred to them as trailer parks. Not language friendly... so lesson taught...

"Mobile homes" and they work for some people and SOME take care of them. I have lived in two long ago and the "insulation" was a 2 inch fiberglass with a piece of tin outside and an 1/8" board on the inside. Sodas froze on the floor in winters. Don't miss those old days. 😌

I'd still rather live in one of those, than inside any city limits, let alone an apartment or condo.

If they sit on jacks here in Ohio they are Mobil homes. If you put a foundation under them, even if the "foundation" misses supporting the structure by 1/16" they are real estate. The Mobil homes made today are light years ahead of the stuff made 30 years ago due to electrical, insulation, roofing and plumbing codes. If my home burns to the ground I will buy a prefab and deal with it. A full basement is possible so that is the route I would go.

As I got older I was surprised at the number of people that live in small houses, mobiles homes,house trailers or whatever they are called that have lots and lots of money in the bank.I had a friend that sold satellite TV dishes when they first came out.He said most of the people that lived in the expensive neighborhoods had to finance them if they could get credit.The majority of the ones that lived in a mobile home on a couple of acres would go in the back room and bring out a cigar box full of money and pay cash. I always heard that the poor stay poor by living like they are rich and the rich stay rich by living like they are poor.

Funny thing... we can detitle a Mobile Home in SC... need not be on a foundation. Then it becomes part of the property just like a stick built home. Taxed as a structure. Laugh real loud... I have made a lot of money off of mobile homes and stick built houses as rentals. Detitled quite a few so the bank will finance them. I currently have quite a few used as rentals along with stick built homes.

Ohh, I agree but the old 70s model were not very insulation and I have one one now as my hunting, get away cabin about 8 years old now with a foundation and it is classified as a home now. It is pretty well insulated and suits us well.

Not to sound cold but tornado bait was a common term in tornado alley. Living in a low risk area, my wife and I are very
comfortable in a little 600 sq ft manufactured home here. Far greater chance of fire getting us here. And we have outbuildings to work in, frankly, don't spend that much time in the house.

We prefer mobile mansion if you dont mind. Just upgraded the alarm system to blink the Christmas lights for a second when you pull into the driveway.

Had a 47 footer Mobil Home on my property behind my Dad in Kents Store, Virginia. Closed in full length screen porch in front. It was pretty nice but termites got in porch very bad. Was 1956 VINTAGE with the old cloth covered wiring. Decided to demo it and Ronnie from Charlottesville started the Demo. Too risky to transport on Highway. If it falls apart you got big problems with SP/Sheriff. It was this time of year and hot as H. Over 100 degrees. Well Ronnie sweet talked my Dad out of my $500 cash and I never saw the guy again. He left the flooring and frame. Took me two days with special diamond blade on saws all and special blade on Craftsman Circular 7.5 1HP w/ Electric Brake. Cost me a extra $500 for another dumpster.
Called Sheriff and he and Corporal Deputy finally tracked Ronnie down. They wanted Va. Magistrate to get a piece of him in worst way. I would have had to make two extra trips to Va. to prosecute him so I ate it.
So Ronnie, I am sure the Statue of Limitations has run out but if you see me coming down the street in Charlottesville, you better cross over to the other side real fast.
In Fluvanna County use to be 90 days to bring another Mobile Home in. If not use is considered Abandoned. Now days i don't think you can even use a Mobile Home. Frankly, I don't care if I never ever see another Mobile Home as long as i live. -----------------------Ray

I call it home! LOL I bought a 1650 sq ft double wide for 40K and it sits on 25 acres, I don't need no stinking stick built house :)

We live in a very rural area, a lot of my sons friends would be amazed when they would come over, that we lived in a "brick" house. Most of them had only lived in mobile homes their whole lives.
