Winchester 1894 carbine 32-40 made 1915 missing saddle stud

Help all. Appears original. Gum wood stock, proper stampings, but no saddle ring. Factory mistake?

  For an extra $.50, Winchester would omit the saddle ring. The "Eastern Carbines" that were slated to be sold in the eastern part of the country, were made without them. That started in 1928.
