...Of course they did, but like most civilized folks...they ate the beef(meat), not the "by-products" on that list ...

I used to attend horse auctions just outside of Sumter SC back in the early 70's. The auction place was just a walk away from where I was living and I found the free entertainment interesting.
When a horse wasn't bought outright at auction for whatever reason, the auctioneer would always slam his gavel and loudly say another for CAMPBELL'S SOUP! 😮
I never looked at another can of vegetable BEEF soup again the same way!
