Great White hooked on beach in Mass.
Years ago I surf fished a lot, usually alone at night, mostly at the inlet here at Ft. Fisher near Wilmington, N.C. I have hooked some really large sharks on 17 lb test mono. You can't stop them but if you know what you are doing you can play them for a while. They would pick up the hunk of fresh mullet I would have out and take off. They would usually run right down the beach heading for the inlet and I would follow them, usually a couple of hundred yards or so depending on where I was fishing. Then you just grab the spool on the big Penn reel and break the line. You can't do much else. This guy hooked a Great White.
People have no idea how many sharks are in shallow water near the beach.

That video made our local news in Utah. If I heard it correctly, the guy had hooked a fish, and the shark then attacked the struggling fish. No way the angler actually "hooked" the GWS, as he himself said. Chomp, run, gone.
There are many videos taken from planes and drones of surfers playing around - and not all the "surfboards" are inanimate.

I don't know. I have hooked a lot of sharks and caught a lot. I remember releasing a small six foot hammerhead that I caught on 10 lb. mono on a Garcia bait casting reel. I was in a boat which made it much easier to tire the fish out. I have also had them run in and bite a fish I had hooked before as well. I have had Barracuda do the same.

Several times when surf fishing I have had something that was like trying to stop an F-250 with a Penn reel.I assumed it was a shark.

Seen this many times. I worked on a charter boat and would have someone say all of a sudden when reeling in a fish the fish got real heavy then all of a sudden it got light.
Sure enough every time all they had was half a fish. Shark ate the other half.
