Bat in house
Last week I notice a bat had gotten into the basement. I left the door open to the outside for a while and checked basement again and did not see the bat.
Fast forward to last night and somehow the bat did not leave and got from the basement to the house.
The bat is flying all around the house being chased by the cat. The bat finally decided to land on cathedral ceiling in bedroom. Of course now no way is my wife going to bed.
Got the bat off the ceiling and is again flying around the house. I open a sliding glass door and corralled the bat with a towel out the door.
It is amazing how fast he flew around the house and how he changed flight direct before he ever touched the towel.
Still don’t know how the bat got in. We always try to keep the cellar door closed as mice are always coming in.

I saw seeing what looked like mouse droppings at the base of my fireplace bricks outside. Set traps. Droppings found on the traps. Nada.
Then, had a pro in to get rid of a bald-faced hornet nest and asked him about the mouse problem. He looked up and pointed to a small gap between a deck rafter and the chimney brick, and said, "No mice. Bats." Got a flashlight, and sure enough...
Learned that bats are extremely sensitive to strong smells, and hate the odor of mint. I dabbed a bit of mint oil on the wood, and the little boogers stayed away for almost a week - but came back when the odor dissipated. Ended up stuffing some foam insulation strips in the gap.
They ain't guano roost there no mo.

Love bats, just not in the house.
Speaking of, we've been talking of putting up bat houses. Need to get the middle daughter to peruse YouTube and make us some.

When you get your houses done, let me know. I have a whole house full of them. You can have as many as you want. You just gotta come and get them. I haven't figured out to catch the little - __________. (Is this still a family friendly forum?)

Every year in May a little bat sets up home high up in the rafters of my big porch, about 12 feet off the ground. He hangs upside down all day and flies around at night. In October, he is gone for the winter. He has been living here for 5 years, I like having him around he eats lots of mosquitoes.

I have a colony in the woods. Nice to watch them fly. Never a Skeeter to worry about.

First thing on a call for a bat in the house was to ask if the bat had been in there while they had been sleeping. Second thing was to ask for a tennis racket. Then it either it went out the door or to the lab.

Many years ago, back in the dark ages when I was dating my future wife, I had her over at my house for dinner and to meet my folks and a few of my siblings.
Before the meal as we sat having coffee visiting in the family room, my girlfriend noticed a bat hanging upside down in a dark corner of the room. She loudly said I think you have a bat in the house and before anyone sitting there had time to react, my 13 year old sister came in with a long handled camping fork. Skewering that bat like a hot dog! 😮
Being a farm girl, I'm pretty sure her first experience being around my family aided me in my pursuit of finding the perfect mate! 😁

I have used a Tennis Racket to knock them down, then I flush them.
