Cave Bacon! - PIC

I rolled out Tuesday and went to Natural Bridge again, this time to see the cavern. The guide did a good job and it was worth seeing but not the best cavern in VA.

View from balcony of the room. If you ever get the chance to stay at the NB Hotel it is a cool spot.


I decided to run up to Shenandoah Caverns and it was larger and I got some great shots, this is "cave Bacon"


Really cool to learn about the growing caverns and the different formations, etc. Guides did a great job and had their canned jokes all ready. The colored lights enhance the already beautiful formations. Hard to imagine it the way the people who discovered them saw it without the lighting.


Also on the Shenandoah cavern site is a giant warehouse full of floats that Earl Hargrove designed for parades and inaugurations.

I also went over to Winchester VA and wandered around downtown for a little while, I have a new name for it. WHITECHESTER VA, very very light there lol.

Decided to drive the Skyline drive and guess what? It was FREE that day! Even cooler lots of nice overlooks but I will try to go back in the fall.

    Winchester was a focal point of Civil War campaigns, especially the "Valley Campaign" of Stonewall Jackson. Winchester was Southern, then captured by the Yanks, then captured by the South again. It changed hands 70 times during the war.

    Next trip try Lurray Caverns.

    If your into history, don't pass up the D-Day Memorial in Bedford, Va. (I'll meet you there.)

    nice photos and sounds like a good visit

    we live some what close to the Ohio caverns . I have ask the wife to go a few times (as a kid it was a field trip elementary school took us on several times ) any way wife says no I have no need to go into a hole in the ground so I gave up years ago . same when we use to vacation a lot any where there was a cave I would ask want to go only to be ignored oh well . a small price to pay for all she does for me I guess
