It was an epic quest.....I prevailed.....passed a test of epic restraint along the way
OK, so...some of you working from home know what all it takes to make that happen. I have someone that will soon be doing this for me. So, I had a list of supplies that I needed to get that done. We've been talking about it for a while, but things took place that made it necessary to get this ball rolling now.
This means I needed a computer, two monitors, mouse, keyboard, and an office chair for him to be able to do this. Easy......right???
Well....no.
So, I head to Best Buy and wait for a sales person to become available to help me.....wait.....wait....wait....wait.....while watching two people help people that are taking forever. It was a mom with a daughter and an older black man....both people had LOTS of redundant questions and they had to walk around wide areas of the store looking at all kinds of nonsense. When a sales person FINALLY comes to me I point to the tower I want....the monitor I want and tell her my list of needs. (I have a buggy and I expected boxes to be tossed in that thing so I could pay and go.) Nope, nothing is in stock, its all a ruse and she starts asking if I wanted the lesser version of everything or if I wanted to order anything?
No....I head out.
Its now 11am and I'm worried I'm not going to be able to get this done. I stop at Tazikis to get lunch. I'm sitting at a table listening to the loudest woman on the planet harp on about her kids to every person that she made eye contact with. She was nearly YELLING the updates about her son. I almost took my phone out and pretended to talk about my own to a fictitious person....."my son's rehab is going great, I think I've figured out what strip club my daughter is working at." It was all I could do to stop myself.
I find that Staples nearby shows a comparable desktop in stock, so I head that way. I get there and of course, no salespeople are free to help. I'm standing at the desktop and trying to make eye contact with anyone that looks like they might can help. Finally, a guy finishes helping his customer and comes over. Its not in stock. I ask to buy the display.....nope, thats not real, just a box. He asks if I want to order it....no....then says "let me check our other stores." I pull out my phone and try to call the next closest store that shows computers are located.....Officemax.
The lady that answers the phone passed me to the manager of Officemax. I ask him about the computer I'm looking for, and it has to be IN STOCK so I can pick it up. He says the have one....so I tell him to HOLD IT and I'm on my way. Finally, UGH!!! I drive to where Officemax has been for the past 15 years......they are NOT THERE! HOLY CRAP....can this day go off the rails any further than it has??? I google it and they are 20 minutes away. I get there, parking is a pain, but I'm in the home stretch and excited to finally be done with this sometime soon.
The lady at the door greets me, she has what looks like the scalp of a wookie on her head.....worst wig I've EVER seen in my life. She is obviously the lady I spoke with earlier. She calls for the manager, who is the person that told me they have the computer in stock. He is walking up with a box on his shoulder. I fell like I'm winning at life just watching him come toward me. He asks what else I need....I spout off my list of treasure....he starts briskly walking around, tossing things in my buggy as I chase behind him.
The last thing on the list is a chair. I tell him it has to be for a big guy.....he asks, just HOW big? Then he shows me that they have Shaq's office chair line in stock. Ohhhhh....yes, this is what we need. So, my guy is working from home today.....sitting in Shaq's chair. Life is good.

That sounds like a conversation my wife and I heard at a place called Bar-B-Barn in Montreal about 30 years ago. Except it was two very large black ladies sitting at the table next to us talking about their Sugar Daddies.
I almost could not eat but it was so entertaining.
I just got a new computer for our business. However I have been ordering Dell computers almost since Michael Dell was selling them out of his garage.
If you make an account with Dell and order from their small business division you get a personal rep. who will walk you through whatever you want. I got the computer within 3 days with a dedicated rep. in case there are any problems.

Best Buy: I will never enter their store again in my lifetime
Staples: I have had them lie to on the phone that they had an item, drove to that store in less than twenty minutes to find out the have been out of stock for a month.

I must be the only person on Earth that has never had an issue with Best Buy.....three months ago after researching what I wanted, I called Best Buy and then ran over and picked up a new tower, 32" monitor, Bose speakers and a new case for my IPAD.....put it all on my Best Buy card to get the 5% back and then paid it off when the first bill showed up.....Spent the 5% rebate towards a new lens for my camera.....
Sounds like you truly had an epic day Kasey....but in the end you got what you needed.....you were a little tattered but you soldiered through !!!

you know sharing your stories makes me at least . (maybe others ) feel I am not the only one who gets there fair share of frustration when dealing with stores and people

We're slowly getting things under control as far as the off site computer goes. We've installed TeamViewer so we can access things and my brother (the I.T. hero in my life) can fix things when it all goes South. Right now its hard because I'm the type that puts out the fires in front of my face and I'm having a hard time planning things out so we're all on the same page.
