August/Sept are birthday months for US. She's getting a new self-propelled battery powered ELECTRIC model.😘

My new neighbors (two 30ish female sisters) went 100% battery powered lawn mower, edger and snow blower. Seems to work OK for city size lots. It's very strange to see someone walking back and forth on their lawn and you don't hear anything.

We bought the big one from Lowes in April last year, the Kobalt 80v. Cost about $600. I was just running it yesterday. This is a wonderful machine. With that big battery, you will run out of energy before the battery does. It will run for about an hour and a half.

well we all know electric tools and vehicles are free to use, all you do is plug them in when you need some more power. and for the thread, my wife loved to mow it's how she would relax. i learned from her, i try to never mow because i have to but because i can get on the mower, put my mind in neutral and mostly relax.

Another good thing about the electric. The girlfriend just could not crank the gas lawnmower. So I got stuck doing most of the mowing. Now with the electric she does about 1/3 of the mowing.

JMHO any thing you have to work with not a good present for a wife .. better get something she can show off to her friends a new lawnmower is nice and save her in many ways but still ...
many years around 1980 or so my wife and I rented a old farm house not long after we were married the old lady was in a nursing home ( she was about 90 then ) and some family were looking after the place . any way in the barn was a old battery powered riding mower I would guess she had it for similar reasons plug in it and go no starting or gas . it had to have had 6 or 8 battery's maybe more ? its been to long ago to recall even who made it I do remember it was yellow and about a 38' cut deck and weighed a ton . it was on its last legs' as far as the battery's but we used it the year we lived there but it did work and as stated a bit odd after using a gas powered model . still in the barn when we left . but it was the first battery powered riding or really any mower I had ever seen and bet it was not inexpensive to buy even back then but for a old lady it had to be a great option to use

You are right about running out of energy before the battery dies. If they are like the two battery operated chain saws that I have and my age I do not run out of battery power before I am done.

We were just looking at the Ego Battery Operated Lawn Mower at Lowes yesterday. Has RWD and might be good for the Lake House.
I have an older DR battery operated chainsaw that I have been using off road. Looking to get a Milwaukee chainsaw and contemplating this Chainsaw / Pole Saw combo:

Well if you can afford the water bill for the lawn along with The higher cost for electricity when they go carbon free then just make sure you have two batteries and keep them from freezing. The higher the amp battery the better, but like all Chinese products, you better buy a name brand.
Here on the gulf coast where it rains all the time with high grass, I doubt they will work well (rechargeable ones) in high wet grass. Corded ones work well, but too much of a hassle for the average user. Self-propelled Gas ones is all that I buy.

How many amps storage on the batteries? 5 amps is not enough. I can buy a lot of gas for the cost of a battery plus an electrical motor on a mower.

Another consideration is how high you let the grass get between mowings. If your idea of mowing the lawn is more like cutting hay, then you should stick with a gas-powered mower. A battery powered lawn mower can cut thick grass, but it puts a lot of strain on the battery and electric motor. The batteries will run down quickly under this kind of load, and lithium ion batteries may heat up, causing the circuitry to momentarily turn off the battery to preserve it. The bottom line is that if you own a cordless electric mower, you’ll have to be a little more vigilant about cutting the grass before it gets too long.

Amps on storage? I don't know. The machine will run about an hour and a half on a charge. The little meadow I just cut, the grass was 18 inches high but the machine handled it.
I have been using this lawnmower for a year and a half and I have nothing bad to say about it.

Looking at mowers at Lowes l noticed they had a 40volt model. Upon closer inspection l see the battery is the EXACT size and brand used in the electric hedge trimmer l bought last yr after my old gas quit running.
