Looks like a puff ball to me. At that stage they aren't bad when I mow but when they mature it is like setting off a smoke bomb with the mower. Bob

Puff Ball. They are edible before the puff.

If you don’t hear from me again, you’ll know what happened.

Have to be white inside to be good. Off white is They get very large and are seldom found in the woods,, usually on the lawn or field, golf course etc.

My wife studies this, she is always chasing wild mushrooms and eating them. I passed my phone over to look at it, pretty soon she has her mushroom Bible out and said it's one of these two, depending on the cracks on top.

She said there's 8 different "puffballs". People generalize too much. She also said she normally won't try and identify by pictures but this one was easy.

we have one spot in the back every year at least one to three puff balls come up we do nothing with them and no way I would eat one with out 110% positive its not going to do any harm LOL

they get to just under basket ball size before turning a light to dark brown ( I would guess that the point of eating it has come and gone ) but every year same spot about a 5 foot square area under some trees / bushes

just mowed over two last night but they were older and just chunked apart not the big dust off I get early on

We have both the types in that book come up every year about this time. One I noticed was partially eaten. It had tooth marks in it. The whole top was off and laying to the side and what was rooted to the ground was eaten. This year we've had mushrooms coming up constantly. I don't eat any of them. We also get a puff ball type that's bronze colored, hard and just barely comes up above the ground surface. When I first saw them I thought of truffles. But I'm not going to eat any.

...Have no idea...only recognize the ones growing out of a cow patty...theyre all over east Texas...after a rain they sprout like crazy...of course if you eat 'em you see lots of colors, slobber and grin a lot...Indians would eat 'em and commune with the spirits...

...I dont care for mushrooms, taste like eating dirt to me...

One of my neighbors in my Virginia house had a small dog that died from eating a mushroom so the Vet says. Since then I have always removed them in my fenced back yard. I don't think my little dog "Willie" likes them anyway.

I use to pull them up. About 95% are shaped like umbrellas and remainder are puff balls. This became a PIA so I now use my big RedMax backpack leaf blower and it lifts them completely out of the ground and the few puff balls left I kick with my toe and blow them away.---------------------------------Ray

Puff ball fried in butter is good eating.

When they a solid white inside, no black spots they are really good eating sliced and fried in butter.

They are the ones that dry up and produce a puff of snuff when stepped on.

    Devils snuff.

If groceries keep going up might have to call them Biden biscuits. (similar to Hoover Hogs)

Please quit advertising them Puff balls are good to eat.

People leaving disposable diapers and beer cans in the areas now where morel mushrooms once grown. Mushrooms cannot re-grow due to their trash. Morels do not like disposable diapers. (and their contents)

My digestive system has changed quite a bit from my younger days. What I used to like a lot and ate quite often (several wild mushroom varieties) are now totally off my list of eats. DIAREA is a curse that can only be learned from experience!
