High Altitude Buck ,,,,,,,,,
,,,,,,,11,000’ plus. I set up this gentleman’s new rifle (300wsm 168gr Berger), scope and trigger pull weight and reloads.
He finally got the fundamentals down ,,,,,,, trigger press, concentration on the reticle, etc.
DRT at 415 yds ,,,,,,, and then the buck rolled 200 yds down the mountain. Fortunately no broken tines.

strange seeing that buck still in velvet. the neighborhood mulie buck i see about every 2 days, a young 4x5, had clean antlers 3 weeks ago.

Nice representative of a good main frame 4 point with bonus brow tines.
can’t tell if his left G1 has a little drop tine or if it is loose velvet?

That’s rock that has tumbled down from above ,,,,,,,,, they’re two plus miles from the nearest trail. Very steep terrain.

He’s shooting a new Kimber Mountain Ascent with a new Swarovski scope ,,,,,, .300wsm, I loaded 168gr Berger over IMR 4831.

It won't score especially high but it is pretty darn symmetrical and a fairly heavy rack, although with velvet, mass is a bit hard to judge. Hard to tell from the pic but I think that is torn velvet and it is a wonder there isn't more from the fall on that rocky terrain. I always liked the taller racks vs the wider ones and I would have popped that one without hesitation. Well maybe I would have 10 or 15 years ago. 11,000 ft and 2 miles from the trail isn't something I want to tackle anymore. Bob

sxsnuf ,,,,, I know a lot of the ranchers in the area, do their gun work and help when I can with branding and gathering. They let me hunt if I want, in most cases. Also, I get invited to tag along on many hunts with individuals that I've helped with their rifles and reloads. I'm blessed to have those who have trust in me.
