had friend offer my son place to hunt...........

so we went out thursday set up his pop up blind, and camera, and threw out salt block. we weren't expecting much as it is only about 200-300 yards off main road and on a steep point right above his cabin. went out this morning to do a little work on mine and clean up few trails and change cards in my camera, so decided to run down to where we set my sons up and change his card out also as it is only about 15 minute ride on the side X side over to his place. just got home and was looking on my cards and I had one large spike and lots of does wander through, and yesterday morning a big black bear stopped, sat down and stared at the camera for about 10 minutes then got up and left. My sons card had 5 different buck in two days time, small 3pt, small 4pt, two, maybe twin 6pts and one large 9pt and they were fighting in a few pictures, which seems a little early but he will take it, one shot had 6 different does in same picture, we never figured we would see more than few does as it is so close to the main road, he may have got lucky and found himself a honeyhole, wish we had put up a bigger blind and I may have tried crossbow hunting out of it. bottom line though at least we both have a place to hunt and looks like maybe a good chance of seeing some deer

    around me I stopped hunting years ago its always been difficult most farmers hunted or only allowed family and no one else

    I cant blame them I would probably be the same way

    any way a few years ago maybe 10 ? a " hunting club /company " came thru bought up rights to every place they could and blocked any one from hunting even some of the farmers who owned the land agreed to not hunt there own land a co-worker who owns a small farm ( small key word ) loved to hunt , trap and just be the woods doing what he loved , he grew up around the area family been here several generations and the farm was passed on to him well any way they sought him out promised him a "guide job if he helped " and ask his help to get in the doors of a lot of the local farmers that knew him

    sadly once they got what they wanted ( as in signed leases )

    then it was sorry fellow we have professional guides and do not need you . he was ticked off but nothing he could do
