WOW! Lost Hunter Found 53 Years Later
I'm surprised there was something left to be found after so long! Predictors must not be common in Idaho. At least, after all this time there will be closure for family. RIP long lost hunter.

I skipped thru the article earlier sounds like they found his wallet with all his info I would guess maybe some gear and a few bones could not have been much left
at least the family has closure to some degree on bringing him home after all these years

Once in the Colorado in the early 70s, I sat down on a timbered ridge to take a break and watch for bucks. I noticed a rotten old GI web belt buried deep in the pine needles. I pulled out what was left of it, and it had an old canteen and compass case attached to it. The compass was some old European model and was corroded and the needle was seized up. I looked around, and fortunately did not find a skeleton or rusty rifle. I always wondered if someone got hurt or lost up on that ridge, and why they left their gear belt.

I drew a goat tag and hunted in the White cloud's south of Challis one year. Goat area is certainly dangerous terrain.

I've been in several places in the Idaho mountains where I knew if I fell off a cliff or otherwise met my demise no one would ever find me.
Hopefully his family will now find real closure about this.

One of my hunting buddies found a wallet in the woods that was lost in the 70s.The guy that lost it had ID that he was a fireman in a nearby town.He was still working at the same fire station when my buddy tracked him down and gave him his wallet back.

I can only hope it was a fast death the thought of laying for days in pain knowing the end was coming and no one would find him in time would have a nasty death ( not that any way to die are good but a quick death in some cases would be a blessing )

In 1988, I was elk hunting around Cody Wy and the main topic of conversation was the discovery of an aircraft that had gone down with all occupants several years earlier. You'd think an airplane wouldn't be that hard to notice but this one went in hard and sort of riveted into a large fissure in the rocks. The outfitter had what was left of a Weatherby rifle that had been found after sitting against a tree for ?? years. Apparently the owner set it against this big pine tree and couldn't find it. Big OOPS.

When we were searching for that A-10 that went down in CO on New York Peak- folks could not understand how hard it could be to find an airplane- that area is completely free from snow for about 15 days a year.
Places where there are no sidewalks, no street lights, critters are not tame and your body may NOT be returned to your next of kin. And what surprises people- some of those places are not really that distant.
