It's left outside but driven every day. As I understand it the wire coverings have a soy bean base in them and this what's attracts them. Just read an article where Ford will be using coffee chaff and the unusable skin of roasted beans in the mfg. of their headlamp housings! Wonder just what that might attract🙄

Yep, chewed the insulation off my bookkeepers subie, harness was on top of the trans, perfect snack bar.
Home wire has same content, fellow wired a basement and then closed the house for winter, opened up in spring and all that as left was bare wires

Have an occasional mouse or three in the garage.
Found something the other day that might just end the problem. A black snake shed about 5 feet long in the garage.

Use some Irish Spring bar soap under the hood. Really! I'm not kidding. Rodents can't stand the smell of it. I took a bar of it, cut it up into about three pieces and then put them in some small draw-string bags. The bags are of mesh design, so they allow plenty of air flow.
I have three bags under the hood of my Chev. 1500HD Silverado, and a couple bags under the hood of my wife's Honda Element. They will last for months. Once the odor dies down, it's time to put in some new soap.
I have a bag of rodent repellent inside the cab of my truck as well. I got it @ Tractor Supply.
The deer use to go thru Dad's freshly planted tomato plants like a buzz saw until he hung Irish Spring in the mesh bags. When tomatoes came out he used the wire cages.---------Ray

5-6 ground up extra strength tylenol mixed in a can of cat food, it OD's their nervous system, an old neighbor told me this to get rid of skunks, but said it would also kill cat if I had one......
