Rare Garand AOW ???
I found this while looking at "un-named" auctions. If it's not real, then bubba out did himself.
OK, I had to call. He said it "looks like" the OAL is 26 1/4" & barrel 16 3/4".
Rare M1 Garand w/ Folding Stock ***(and a short barrel)
Description: A quite interesting and possible experimental model M1 Garand (Paratrooper?) rifle with an under folder stock. Manufactured by Springfield Armory but has very unique features not seen in the typical Garands. Action works well, nice and tight and overall free from any damage. Some research indicated that these might have been an experimental model which proved to heavy for use. Overall very unique and unusual model which requires further research. Springfield Armory produced a very few M1 Rifles with 18 inch barrels and a folding stock, but not the MP38/40 type shown in the above example. These rifles were designated and marked M1E5 had their own serial number range, which began at 1. Due to excessive muzzle blast and violent recoil, the project was shelved. The idea was revived in the 1950s for the M14 Rifle, and met with similar results.
Whoever modified the above rifle looks to have done a quality job, but a Garand with a 16 inch barrel? I'll pass up on the chance to fire it!

Thinking back- way back, like 30 years ago when the Korean M1s were being sold, I have a vague memory of SARCO selling super short M1 barrels from one of their famous "unknown sources." It would be interesting to see the barrel markings on the above rifle.

Someone destroyed a valuable 1941 Springfield barrel by cutting it down to 16 inches. As I said, the modification seems to be nicely done, but it's still Bubba.

Remember seeing some of these at a gun show years ago. Really brought quite a bit of controversy by passers by and all negative. No one was interested. With the AK stock and 06 cart, it hurts my shoulder when I think about firing it,

I think if you read the fine print, you will find that the 26 ?" measurement is with the stock deployed in "normal firing position".

And, of course, there's always the possibility that the receiver is a "re-weld". A hands-on examination would be necessary to rule that out.

It fires the same cartridge as any other 30-06 Garand. a little lighter weight would case more felt recoil but nothing major. A light short barreled slug gun would have more recoil. Muzzle blast wouldn't be fun. an 06 needs more barrel to burn the powder charge. Be fun to have around just to play with,.

I sighted in a friends Ruger #1 458 Lott not long ago with 500gr solids, 10 shots and survived, yes it kicked but manageable.
Still have that Jungle Carbine I bought from you over 30 years ago and with the sized down hard rubber buttplate, and that is painful.
The Ruger #1 recoil was distinct but not painful as that damned number 5. That sawed off Garand reminded me of the #5. If you missed your target, the muzzle blast would set it on fire.
