One of those is on my cool list too. Not right at the top but close.

Never just had to have one but if I ever do I only want it set up like this:

Colt 1911 in nickel finish with elk stag grips. Tom Threepersons Holster by El Paso Saddlery. I donโ€™t even want fancy sights. Maybe some fire blued screws to finish it out.

SWEET it is. IMO, Had a few years back and actually shot one a bit. It's a rock and roll pistol that's for sure. You will like one.

I had one for awhile ended up trading it for a 10mm mainly because ammo was a lot easier to find for the 10mm. That was during the first ammo shortage

I took a Series 80, removed the Series 80 parts and converted it 9mm Luger, 9x23 Win, 38 Super and with a slide/barrel swap for 38 Special WC ,,,,,,, itโ€™s a tack driver with all 4 cartridges.

Dis-regard the wrong radius notation,,,,,,it was for a class edification.

Because few of us have the wherewithal to do something like that.

...I like the 1911 DE (Delta Elite) in 10mm, better ballistics and bigger bullet if you want bigger, and a hoot to shoot, but then I like all Colt 1911's...

I have a series 70 in 38 super. Hell on armadillos. Don

Had one for several years...(series 70) Loved it but I got into IPSC and they got picky about the major/minor rating...Changed it to a 45acp...It was my duty as well as my competition gun...When Clark came out with his 38 Super barrel that head spaced on the case mouth...it made a whole lot of difference in accuracy...

Already have 2-10mm's, and wanted something a little different. Looking at something like this to start with:

If I can take a series 80 Gold cup and convert it to a 22 using an older series 70 conversion unit, anyone can do it.

    I had three.

Bought a gold cup in .38 Super a year and 1/2 ago for $1200. Sold it a couple months ago for $4150.00, through Sarah15.

Edit: he thought it was a dead beat bidder, but the guy finally paid, so relist was cancelled.

Still have a series 80, and a 70's style commander.

Love the caliber, and ammo is widely available out there.

It's my most go to CCW.

My .38 Super is a Commander made in 1952. My dad traded for it, used, in the mid-1950s. It wears ivory grips carved with Oriental dragons.

We need to see a pic or two of that David.

Indeed! Sounds like a beautiful China Grove (A Doobie Brothers reference for you young guys) BBQ gun!

The .38 is the lower of the two in each picture. I have the original trigger and mainspring housing. I reckon I should put it back as it was, since I don't carry it anymore.

A little cropping done on these two:

Pretty much the only .38 super's we sold was to Mexicans who wanted shiny ones.

I have heard before that the the Mejicanos were particular purveyors of .38 Super.

They aren't allowed to legally own .45 or 9mm.

Years ago a local hardware store that would sell and trade guns had a Colt 38 Super in the pistol case.None of us locals knew what it was and even if we did it would have been next to impossible to find ammo for it locally. It stayed for sale for several years and seems the price got down to a couple of hundred dollars before it was sold or traded away.

We get 1911 38 Supers in our monthly police auctions every once in awhile. They are always "over the top flashy" gold or silver plated with Mexican Eagle grips.
