U.S. Model 1816 Bayonet (Original or Conversion/Replacement)

Trying to determine the background of this 1816 style bayonet apparently used for the smooth bore musket or a conversion. Here are some specs as I tried to measure them:

OAL = 19 1/16", blade length 16 1/16", socket 3", blade flute 9 1/4", bore diameter about .8125 in the front and .84375 in the rear. The "T" mortise slots are 1/4" on top and bottom and 3/8" in the middle.

As an amateur, the more I read on-line, the more confusing it gets. I understand there are original bayonets and replacements. The most defining thing on this on this bayonet is the single punch mark on the ricasso. It has been suggested that this is a contract bayonet probably made by an independent manufacturer and that is why it is not stamped U.S. There are no other visible markings.

    I'm looking at a Model 1816 bayonet that I have and believe to be an original. Mine is stamped "US" in small font in roughly the location where your's has the punch mark. Below the "US" are two other characters that I cannot makeout what they are. They appear to be two numbers (Year?) but I'm not sure. The dimensions you list are quite close to those on mine.

    It looks original to me. I've had unmarked bayonets and even an unmarked Model 1816 flintlock musket. These were generally made by subcontractors.

    That is what I was leaning towards. Military was looking for bayonets and didn't care who made them. Thanks for the reply.
