Great article there in the NYTimes, including lots of photos and video. What a catastrophe.

Imagine driving along, 1:30 in the morning, on an interstate, going 65 mph, and ten seconds later your car is in the harbor, the water is 100 feet deep.

The fire department I work for sent a small boat to the scene to help in the search for survivors.

I have been on a couple of cruises out of Baltimore. Passengers lined the deck when leaving the Port to see how close the ship was to the bridge. It seemed to me that clearance was around 10-20', but it's hard to estimate. I can't imagine what this will do to the tourist business.

Also the freight business is screwed. I can’t imagine having a ship up river from this collapse. Those ships are going to be there for a very long time.

My daughters husband works for consol coal. Their loading port is inside the of the collapsed bridge. They may have a slow down over this. Their coal is shipped to India. And I don't know about bridges but it seemed like that bridge broke up fairly easy. I really don't think they'll find any more survivors.

155 thousand ton ship knocked it down like a feather. Talk about having a bad day, it makes me appreciate the days I have.

Unreal on everything that is captured on cameras anymore. Can’t imagine the victims last moments; had to have been pure hell.

Watching that bridge come down so easy and so fast really gave me the creeps. Things will come to a stand still in that area for quite some time.

All those illegals that we don't know who they are or where they are at. Twin Towers and Oklahoma City bombing come to mind. Somehow I could not help but think of a panel truck sitting in the middle of the George Washington bridge being touched off and isolating NYC. Our leaders have ushered in a Trojan Horse into our beautiful country and I am afraid we may pay dearly for that mistake.

Prayers for the victims and their families who never dreamed that their loved one could not make it across a bridge to get to work or come home from work. ------------------Ray

    Purposeful accident?

I was thinking they were testing the ways to cripple the country. Chinese?

The six missing, who are no doubt, dead, are construction workers who were filling potholes on the bridge. At least 5 vehicles went into the water, but apparently these were driven to the site by construction workers, nobody was in a vehicle that went into the water. It is a miracle there weren't a dozen occupied cars in the water.

Joe Biden laid the steel on that bridge.

He said he rode the train across it a bunch of times...............except.......there were no train tracks on that bridge.

When they rebuild it they'll use Chinese "steel" that's gonna fail right after the build like in San Francisco. I think it's the Bay Bridge that's failing from crappy Chinese steel.

Wonder how long it will be before Biden or one of his corrupt sycophants in the media blame Trump for the accident.

Water temps this time of year, unless you are wearing a protective suit, go in the water, you have about 4 minutes.

For all that speak of "how easily the bridge came down"- yeah, right. Did some calculations. The impact resulted in 433,561 ft pds of energy. Weight of the ship times speed. Not quite "easy".

Modern designs such as long span bridges depend on ALL structural members carrying their share of the load. As long as everything is intact, the spans can carry extreme loads. BUT should any combination fail, the resulting 'domino effect' brings the rest of the structure down.

Watch 'World's Greatest Engineering Disasters' and you'll see the results.
