Is there a better way to do this? It seems like the safest and most effective way to to replace a "bubba'd" FSB.

  All I can offer: Make sure that the replacement parts were made in the same country as your rifle; i.e., Vietnamese, Chinese, Russian, Albania, Yugoslavian, etc. Specs are likely to be different, especially Yugo.
