Can you spare a prayer for my dog? Final Update...
Looks like my buddy Thor may have developed a cancer in his left foreleg. We have an appointment with a specialist next week and could use all the help we can get.

We just got back from the vet's office. We had to send Thor on to the Rainbow Bridge this afternoon. Things were going pretty well but then one complication after another set in. We know we'll see him again but right now I'm a hurtin' unit.

I read somewhere that dogs don't like to be hugged. That might be true for most dogs, but I'm giving my dogs a hug tonight for Thor.
I hug my dogs pretty much everyday.

Just heard from the doc and he said the surgery went about as perfect as can be expected. Whew! We'll pick him up tomorrow and start the healing.
Allen, amputation was one of the things we considered but even with that they highly recommend the chemo. We discussed this all with three vets ad nauseum and all three that we talked with assured us that dogs, for whatever reason, tolerate the chemo much better than humans. The long term outlook for the limb sparing surgery and amputation were the same so we went with saving the limb.
I want to thank all of you for the prayers and well wishes. I know there were more prayers said than folks that responded and we appreciate each and every one of you.

You are a very great owner to take care of an animal like you are doing. To go thru the agony is very hard. Prayers for both of you

Just be aware that many dogs can live perfectly happy lives on three limbs. They are incredibly adaptive........kinda like humans. Good luck with your decision and prayers for whichever way you go.

Prayers for Thor and his family. Truly sorry for what you're feeling. We've gone through it too many times. There's always another that needs rescuing though, and we've never been sorry we did.

Exactly , had to have an eye removed and sewn shut on my last lab Dixie. She adjusted fine.. I would sneak up on her blind side and grab her and say coyote... and she would jump.. all in fun.

I'm so sorry.....he won the pet lottery when you got him, I'm sure. Our fur-babies are as much a part of our family as our kids are, so I understand how devastating it is to lose one of your pets. That is a sweet picture for sure.

Sorry to hear that Steve, it's always a tough loss to lose a good animal, sometimes even harder than people. It's amazing how pets just seem to fill that space that people can't, guess that's why God made them for us. If it's any consolation, Thor will have plenty of good friends to run around with up there. I heard that there are fire hydrants on every corner, plenty of beds to sleep on and the ice cream man comes by every day with dog treats......
