I am not in favor of militarizing the police, especially in rural counties like mine. We need more cops like my own former county sheriff. He could defuse a tense situation better than anyone I've ever heard of. He carried a gun, but nobody knew it. He, and his deputies, never shot anyone in over 30 years on the job. Within 5 years after he retired we had the new sheriff and a deputy get into a shootout while serving a warrant and the deputy was killed.
