To me, the engine looks too plastic and fake. Looks like some kind of a prop to me.
Maybe a prototype mock-up that never made it to production?

It could of been one of those flush fitting gas caps. My BMW has one on it.
I converted mine to a flush mount and a LED fuel gauge

It the gas tank was full the front tire would be compressed. Just on the bottom of course, not on the top. That appears to be a Wankel engine.
