I guess I am a speed reader. It boils down to which of the two studies that they included in the article is correct. There sure is a big difference in the 10 foot gonna flood Obamas new home scenario and the other one that says only a 4 1/2" rise. I have heard reports of ice shelves breaking off in both the Antarctic and the Arctic for most of my life. So far they have regenerated and the doomsday predictors have been not only wrong but I think disappointed. Hopefully they will continue to be disappointed. Bob

People who have lived and worked in the high arctic and antarctic are well aware that icebergs, pack ice, etc. come and go constantly. The broken ice drifts with wind and currents. Water freezes an melts with temperature. It's been that way for millions of years. But these days certain people feel compelled to always come up with something to try to panic everyone with.

Dano, I hope your Danners are high top. Need to keep BS like this from going over the top.

As said. This has been going on since the beginning of time and will continue until the end.

I stopped reading when they mentioned the 5 year, 25 million dollar study.

Give me 5 million a year and I will find fairy's hiding out in the everglades.

I chose the everglades because Florida is the best place for a nice tan and a tall drink with an umbrella in it!

Stuff happens. Knowing stuff ahead of time can be advantages. Hand ringing and political hype are not advantages. The ice stores on our planet are changing, they always change. Can they change enough to affect us? Yes they can and if history is a guide they will.

Fourteen thousand years ago, the ice sheet over Manhattan was 4,000 feet thick. In a few centuries it all melted! Now that was some Climate Change!

There's a glacier near here called Exit Glacier. It has been retreating since the Little Ice Age. They put little signs out there along the road saying "The toe of the glacier was here in 19xx" and as you approach the glacier proper the numbers get more contemporary.

So look at this photo, and tell me what caused the massive retreat from 1917 to 1926? Or the pause in retreat from 1926 to 1951? Was it the proliferation of the industrial era? Automobiles?

Convince me. Make me believe it has nothing to do with the Oligocene climate system.
