There should be a bolt release button to push. If that doesn't work, go outside, point it in a safe direction and pull the trigger.

If Toad67s advice doesn't work try removing the trigger guard screws and slightly lift the trigger guard up from the rear. No need to remove it just lift it out a 1/4" or so and try to pull the bolt back. This will allow everything to line up inside and get back to normal. Bob

Unlike slide action shotguns, there is no bolt release button on an A5, so that's not going to work. I took out my A5 and tried to make it freeze. Trigger pulled or not pulled; safety on or off; cut-off on or off---bolt will open. So I don't think you are doing anything "really stupid".

The bolt handle is supposed to move independently of the bolt, about 1/4", unlocking the bolt from the barrel. The only thing I can think of is that you may have debris preventing that short movement. Try firmly coaxing that handle to move.

In any case, let us know how you made out. We like to hear whether any of our advice helped.

    Good luck!

Put the muzzle on a soft padded surface and push on the butt. This should replicate the action of firing.

That is to release the bolt from the locked open position.

If all of the above doesn't work, take the cap off and remove the barrel.

Had this happen to me. Bobjudys suggestion worked for me.
