I just told my wife that, "Bob Dole died." She said, "Who's Bob Dole?" Unfortunately, in this day and age, most people would say the same thing. I briefly filled her in and she remembered, vaguely, his story.

I have his book, One Soldier's Story, and I'll read it again.

    Thanks, austin20, for posting this.

The last surviving member of the real Band of Brothers also died today. Slow salute of honor to both men.

A great American patriot ! I met and talked to him when he rode on a American Legion float in a Veteran's day parade in the 60's in Marysville, Kansas. He rode with several legion post commanders , my Dad incl. He would show up to many Veteran's groups meetings and was always welcomed. RIP Bob !

Sad, just about all the WW II vets are gone. Those left are closing in on the century mark.

I have a favorite quote of his. Interviewed when he was running for vice president with Ford, he was asked why he wanted that job, "Well, it's indoor work and no heavy lifting." I thought, finally, a politician with a sense of humor. If I hadn't been a fan of his before then, I certainly was after.
