Keurig coffee maker died.
Funeral will be December 11th at 10:00 am, with interment to follow. This thing has severed me well for years. Are the newer one better in your opinion???? I have one of the older models. Oakie

I feel your pain Oakie....my Keurig and I are pretty tight ! My son has a new one and I like it better, more options etc..

We retired our beloved Bunn to get one that will make either single cups or a 10-cup carafe. The carafe is good for groups or making iced tea. We also use the reusable K-cups instead of disposables. I think that absolves us of all future enviro crimes, doesn't it?
The Keurig is convenient; that's about all I can say in favor of it. In fact.it's getting harder and harder to find ground coffee, tea, or even hot chocolate that isn't in K-cups.

I retired my old Bunn after about 10 years of service and bought a new Bunn. The old machine was still in working order and I put it in the box the new one came in and put it in the basement closet. Even the Bunns have a lot of improvements over the older models. This will be our 4th one since around 1986!

You have to spank it. Empty it, turn it upside down, and give it a few good whacks with your palm.
If that doesn't work run a 50/50 solution of vinegar and water through it a few time.

I use this machine when I have to run out the door for work. When I have the time, I still grind my own beans and make some mighty fine coffee. Like you said, it is hard to find ground coffee anymore. I actually order my beans from a website. I try different kinds.

Oakie, sad to hear the news. My Keurig is also an older model. It started acting up a couple years ago and wouldn't easily accept a new pod and definitely not a reusable pod. I found a brand new replacement cradle with the injector and piercing needles . Replaced it and Wha-LA! Up and working again as if it had been reborn. Praise the coffee gods!!
One thing I do is clean it out about every 4 to 6 months with a tablespoon Citric Acid crystals mixed in well to the water reservoir. Run a couple cups or water through to get the mix in the heater and let it set about an hour. Run it through once more and set another hour. Pour out what's left in the reservoir and run two reservoirs of water through the machine.
Seems to keep everything from not getting all gunked up inside.
Cost of Keurig pods have gotten so expensive that I've resorted to grinding mine own and using a reusable pod with filter cup. Ends up being less than half the cost of a store bought pod.
I did check on costs of a replacement machine... and WHOA Nellie! The cheapest one now is more than 2X the cost of what I paid for mine originally. If mine croaks... I may have to go back to using the ol' camp percolator on the stove top...

I just got a new K Supreme Plus for the ball & chain. I hated the 1st generation one she insisted on using, but the new one is great. It uses 5 needles to puncture the pod, which evenly soaks the coffee & produces a strong enough brew. Plus, it's faster that old ones.

Cleaning these things every year is a must. We have a Technivorm for 10 years now. When it goes we'll buy another. Has a SS "thermal" carafe that it drips into which is really a plus.

My Keurig gets cleaned every 2-3 months with one of their kits. Also, always remove the pods immediately after use and keep the pod holder open to let it air out. My digital screen was going out. Googled a fix and read that moisture staying locked in it would cause problems.

I've had a Mr Coffee drip machine in use for 21 years. It makes coffee, which is handy, because I drink coffee. I guess it's ran six to seven thousand pots of coffee so far and maybe a little more.

WOW! That has got to be a world record for a Mr. Coffee SCOUT5! Before going with Bunn makers we always had Mr. Coffee machines but they always died within a year or two of use. The death was caused by the heating element for the pot would burn out or just stop heating.

For about 3 years now, I've had a Hamilton Beach one cup that can use the pods or loose grounds in a little basket. As far as I know, it's been cleaned 3-4 times but just keeps going and going. Daughter has a Keurig for about the same length of time and says she has to clean hers monthly or it gums up. In addition, that brand seems to make the coffee way too hot for me.

Yep. Mine has an automatic shut off on the heating element. I guess that's why it has lasted. It keeps me from drying it out and burning up the carafe.

Summertime we'll make a pot of coffee and refrigerated it for cold coffee.
Wintertime - it's the Keurig. Starbucks Sumatra. Using 1 k-cup, I'll do the biggest size and smallest size in 1 large coffee cup.
I rented an Air B&B house in Michigan while visiting my family for Thanksgiving. It had a newer Keurig that had a button for "Bold." Seemed to work well. Trying to do 2 sizes didn't work - the 1st large cup size was fine, the 2nd cup out of the same K-Cup, made my coffee taste awful. Had to use 2 K-Cups instead.
The Air B&B had an open Disney Plus account on the TV. I banged out the Star Wars Mandalorian series in 2 nights. Plus watched a couple Marvel movies I hadn't seen.
