Cheap cat litter alternative that works.
Didn't want to hijack the Walmart thread where I saw that cat litter was not in stock. I use pine pellets that I get at the local feed store. #2 told me about them as cat litter and they work great. I have the litter box that comes with two tubs and a slotted insert (sifter). I use a litter scoop to get the poops out and then shake the degraded pellets (sawdust) out through the slotted bottom. The intact pellets remain for continued use.
I have zero cat litter smell. It really does mask the odor. The best part, a 40 lb bag lasts at least a month and only costs $6 or so dollars. The poops dry out quickly and have no smell as well. I scoop them off the top of the pellets.
Since I live on a farm I can dispose of the sawdust outside at the edge of the woods where it will continue to compost. Since I have two cats I have two litter boxes to avoid fights. They each prefer to have their own box.

We have at least a dozen cats made 13 or 14 i have not counted for a long time most all stay out side we have three in side one will go out when he has to go never has done any business in the house he Is about 10 yrs old One blind cat about 12 been blind her whole life stays in and one
rescued from the road young cat has never been out side
But when it drops below about 30 degrees wife let's them the one that want to stay in the laundry room
We go thru huge amounts of cat food so that of course translates into lots of cat poop

I know some people like cats, but I'm able to overlook that character flaw most of the time.
Personally, I think the best use of cats is to test the buoyancy of bricks.

Will a turkey buzzard attack a live animal? I can't say that I've ever heard that but then again I don't live in the country.

Recommend Speedi-dry from Autozone. 1/10 the price and cats dont seem to mind.

Hey. I just got a new puppy!! And the breeder told me it was kennel and litter box trained!! What, a dog litter trained?? Absolutely. Chewys sells it!! I was told to get some of the same that Susie was talking about (TSC pelletized bedding for horses and small animals) and mix it 1/2 and 1/2. I like the bedding lots better. And it is tons cheaper!!
Our new doggie is a mini Aussie. It was awesome not to have to take the little guy out on those 10 degree nights and mornings!!

Pelletized bedding for horses/small animals. Someone probably realized since it worked in small animal cages to make clean up easy it would work as a cat litter as well.

@bullshot not sure about turkey buzzards, but it's better to be safe than sorry. They hang out around the hayfield daily and there is no roadkill for them to munch. I assume they are after rodents.

For many years I had use for a cat . My wife gained one not long after we were married I would feed it was my limit it stayed out side
But over time and mean may years I gave in cats and a indepent bunch for sure
But I have gotten to like or at least live with them I am using my phone to post this and a cat is sitting on my lap now one of our dogs that's stays +
We went into town for corn for the chickens so we did pick up a bag of pellets give them a try

I'm curious about the compressed pine pellets. Does it have any clumping characteristics like that expensive Tidy Cat stuff? The cat pee forms an easy to scoop ball and saves the unsoiled litter and from this I can make a 40 lb pail last a few months. Just one cat here.
Growing up we had a house cat and my dad would just fill a big pan with dirt from outside. Every couple days he's just take the pan out, dump, hose down, and refill it. I don't think cat litter was even invented yet back then!

I don't like having a cat indoors but my wife does so we have a cat indoors. I have trained him to use wood ashes to go in so it doesn't cost anything. We keep a pile in one corner of the wood room (unfinished basement, of course) and it works out OK.

Try training your cats to use the toilet. I have seen videos of them doing it. Prolly takes lots of patience!

No, the wood pellets don't clump. They kind of turn into heavy sawdust and can go to the bottom of the box. Like the dirt mentioned, I think I'll just toss it out once a week (and of course dip out the large morsels daily).😆

Absolutely! I didn't know it either. One day about 25 cornered my dog in the pen. Wife said they would kill him(small dog). So I helped my dog and removed the threats. Then I asked Google. They actually eat baby cows and anything that cannot defend itself. 🤯
