Gun gurus, I have a question for you..
I would like to know how to precisely measure the internals of a gun barrel rifling.
The diameter is such that this is creating a problem I would like to solve, just to know how to do it.
Can I cast the internals of a barrel with wax and cool it then punch it out and have a reverse of that specific barrel?
I can only find tried and true, but older manufacturing methods and though I have no intention to manufacture or produce a barrel, I would like to model & 3D print one as an engineering exercise.
I understand a barrel is a pressure vessel and I have no intention of trying to produce a functional version.
The external dimensions are no problem and easily measured but the challenge for me is modeling internal rifling and doing so accurately.
Any suggestions to get me a “reverse” of a barrel thread?

Slug the bore with a lead ball. Easy to do and plenty of U Tube videos to show you how.

Reprorubber is a casting putty to duplicate patterns. It isn't cheap though.

Problem with wax- when it cools, it shrinks, Either slug it with a lead ball, or use Cerro Safe. Cerro also shrinks when it cools, but then returns to full size. And it will vary if you measure land to land or groove to groove.
