Smart' Gun Mocked After Demonstration Fail

I've been hearing about "smart" guns for more than twenty years and none have proven reliable. Someday, perhaps they will be perfected but not so far. The closest has been the rfid ring that the shooter wears but having to shoot off hand in an emergency or wearing gloves posed problems. Just like the fingerprint reader type where gloves or dirty hands or dirty reader would defeat the tech, it just isn't practical. Bob

How would you transfer ownership of a "smart" (fingerprint, biometric, DNA) gun? Take it to a local gun shop and have it reprogramed? Send it back to the factory for a memory wipe? If it is easy then wouldn't a crimminal be able to do it with a stolen gun? A lot of dumb questions for such a "Smart" piece of technology.

The only thing stupider than the people trying to develop smart guns are the people that would buy them.

Anyone who has tried to use the bio-metric unlocking of a smart phone over time will understand how stupid this technology is. If, however, one comes from the mindset that carry guns are unnecessary, the inability to reliably fire is not going to be a big deal.

When they get laser hand weapons then there will be bio-metrics and you can bet the average citizen is not going to have the right to use one either. Probably a kill switch for when someone goes rouge too.
