Go almost anywhere in Kentucky and visit a well-stocked bar. You will observe dozens of bourbon brands you've never heard of. Many or most of them are from craft distillers, or are "off brand" products of major distillers.

I was in "Loovill" a while back and the tender of the bar asked what brand I'd like. There were three tiers of shelves filled with bourbons wall-to-wall. He was gobsmacked to hear I don't drink or like bourbon. Thought for a moment there I was going to get kicked out of there. I think he had to ponder a bit about how to make a proper martini. Did, though.

I'm with ya, select. I'll drink almost any whiskey except bourbon. Irish, Scotch, Canadian, Japanese, Thai...

I sang If Drinking don't kill me at karaoke in the Covington, KY VFW and none of them had ever heard the song. I couldn't believe it.

Jim Beam Extra Aged. One of my favorite inexpensive bourbons

That's my wife's favorite, also. JB Black won the title of "World's Best Bourbon" a while back, which ticked off a lot of bourbon snobs who equate price with quality.

BTW, since their disastrous warehouse fire, JB Black is hard to get. I can still find 750s but 1.75s have vanished.

Mostly just beer these days, but if i feel like having something different it will always be one of the Kentucky brands...

Rocky, if your wife likes JB BLACK she might very well enjoy the McKenna next to the JB in the original picture. They have a similar mashbill although the McKenna is a higher proof (100) it is a 10 year and the JB is an 8 year, even thought JB does not provide an age statement, they have a lot of the same taste characteristics. Also, McKenna won a whiskey of the year back in ‘19 I think. Their win came from a different competition than the one where JB won back in 2016. Pricing is slightly higher on the McKenna.

Lastly, another inexpensive favorite of mine is Evan Williams single barrel, same proof as the JB and priced in between the JB and McKenna. Cheers

Choices are limited in Utah. You can only get brands that are approved and bought by the state liquor board - almost all of whom are non-drinkers. And then they tack on a 46% "sin tax" to the price. It is sold only in state-run stores (and Hill AFB, which is where we shop.) Not in Costco or other stores.

She has tried but doesn't like the regular Evan Williams. I'll buy her either JB Black or Jack Daniels - or regular JB in an empty shelves emergency. Lately, she has ventured into a couple of rye whiskeys for her Manhattans.

Yeah for sure. Bourbon is nectar from Heaven. Just tapped a bottle of Woodford Reserve Double Oaked tonight.

I am gathering from all of these pictures that it is best to store all of your good bourbon on their sides.

Maybe the picture was taken laying down. Too much bourbon might give it the effect.

Whiskey is whiskey, it'll all get you drunk. It's only a matter of flavor for the first 2-3 drinks.
