Sons interesting MRI
Right to the week and nearly to the day six years ago that I detached my left bicep from my radial bone, my eldest son did the same while working.
He gets scheduled and goes in for an MRI. He strips and dons the robe, they allow him to keep his wool socks on, he enters the tube and begin the MRI and he begins to get shocked on his feet.
They remove him from the tube and remove the socks, restart the MRI and all goes as per.
He knows the sock brand, KIRKLAND from Costco, wonder if they have some type of reflective metal thread woven in to enhance warmth?
I used to wear gloves liners in the Arctic that had metal fiber in them to enhance warmth, we called them “Michael Jackson” gloves.
Anyone heard of a similar MRI occurance?

Been awhile since i had one, but I think they gave me socks with pads to keep from slipping on floor, I had to remove everything else and they were doing my neck... Your sons socks must of had something in them as you suggest.

These items can heat up and burn the patient during an MRI. Therefore, MRI facilities typically require patients to remove all potentially problematic clothing items prior to undergoing an MRI.

The powerful magnetic field of the MR system can attract objects made from certain metals (i.e., metals known to be ferromagnetic, such as iron) and cause them to move suddenly and with great force. This can pose a possible risk to the patient or anyone in the object's "flight path." Therefore, great care is taken to ensure that external objects such as ferromagnetic screwdrivers and oxygen tanks are not brought into the MR system room.

Anyway, it seems the future in clothing (including socks) is copper clad fabrics. At least that is what I see a lot of advertised.

It has been several years since my last MRI and since then have had a titanium cage bolted into my lower back. I wonder if that would make me a non-candidate for future MRI tests?
Anyway, it seems the future in clothing (including socks) is copper clad fabrics. At least that is what I see a lot of advertised.
I asked on my last one brooks, as I had had bypass and full hip replacement, on the hip the said right off it would be fine, I think it is titanium, as per the wires they used to put my chest back together, no one in the room seemed to know and had to make a few calls before hand, they said it was allright, but made sure to tell me if there was the slightest amount of pain or any feeling in my chest to signal them to stop............
