    Liz is a remarkable woman and she has been an exemplary queen - as far as that goes in these times. Britain would be better off without royalty, but they'll never escape >1,000 years of tradition.

    You have to give them credit for one thing at least. The royal family stayed in England during WWII when they could have sat the war out in safety in Canada. The King and Queen stayed at Buckingham Palace during the day and took shelter in Windsor Castle with Liz and Margaret at night. A large number of Londoners were spending their nights during the blitz in the underground railroad stations.
