That is out standing marksmanship, a time when people took craftsmanship seriously, and didn’t worry about how many rounds they could put in their rifle, or how many rounds they could put down range.
I’m sure youthful eyes may have had something to do with it as well.

Many years earlier Davy Crockett could have put them all in the same hole at 110 yds........with a flint-lock and using a little Kentucky windage.....😀

I have a copy of Ned Roberts book "The Muzzleloading Caplock Rifle" and in it there are several of the best gun makers of the mid to late 1800's who put their best rifles to the test with international competitions.

I can shoot a one hole groups all day long and at any range. One shot is a group.😀

One of my hobbies is building muzzle loaders. A few years ago, I built a fair copy of an 1860 era Hawken rifle in 54 caliber. When I had it finished I drove 45 miles to my clubs shooting range to see how she would shoot.
Took my time setting things up and chose the 50 yard coarse because of open sights with my aging eyes. Loaded up and took my 1st shot off hand. Had to walk out to the target to see my placement and found that hole dead center bullseye!
For some reason my thinking that day figured I could do no better than that one shot, so I packed up and left for the 45 mile trip home. ☺️
