Grain silo Fire this morning;
about the center of town,
Reported at 7 am, crews still on scene hitting flare ups. Brought in heavy equip. to uncover hot spots.
Requested aid from state fire investigators.

Grain bin fires scared me almost as bad as propane and gasoline storage yards when I was a fireman . We had three huge feed mills / grain storage facilities along with a railroad tank farm that handled all the fuel for a major air force base.

Since grain dust is explosive I have always hoped it could be used as a gunpowder replacement. That would really cheapen up the practice of reloading your own ammo. Or maybe the brainy people could figure out how to mix it with air and run a car engine with it. Seems as though a computer could do that.

There was a bad fire around here at a pie factory several years ago. A giant flour silo went up and yes there was an explosion. IMMIC the cause was static electricity.

We were taught the rule of thumb gauge back in my VFD days.
Interesting how rats flee a burning building man will run into it😓
