New GD lite bulbs
Have had our ceiling recessed can "spots" installed when we remodeled 20 years ago. Within maybe the past 4 years several have burned out. Replaced maybe 10 and most haven't lasted 2 years. WTH😝

Are they LED's? Those things should run forever.

I finally broke down a couple of years ago and replaced ours with LED spots and so far, so good. Heat is the enemy of light bulbs, especially in enclosed fixtures like can lights. The LEDs give off a lot less heat. Bob

I started replacing incandescent can light bulbs with LEDs about 5 years ago. Most are staying ok but a few have failed far short of the advertised life. Failure isn't sudden, but they start to dim.

i dont feel that i get the best advertised service from led's either. yes they typically start to dim then start blinking.

Are you using LED's anywhere in the house, and are you running dimmers on them.
Two types of LED's, non dimming and dimmable. LED's run cool and should out last most of us.

Almost every light bulb in our house are LED's. They save energy, give off much less heat, and last longer than filament bulbs.

I have a "pig tail" CFL bulb on the outside of the garage between the doors. That bulb has been burning 24-7-365 for four years now.

Besides LED prices coming down, I like that I can put a brighter bulb in the same fixture.

Ours are all LEDs now. One over the sink has been on 24x7 for about 5 years now except for power outages!
Just replaced the pigtailed bulbs in the bedroom dome lights with LEDs last week. Wife was surprised when she kicked them on the first time due to the brightness and had I dimmed them down to about 70-75% via the dimmer. 92 watts down to 32 with more visible light.

Switched to all LED in the house, lifespans nowhere near advertised. 4’ tubes in garage ceiling last a year, CFLs last a couple years, the new LEDs that look like filaments, I lost 1 out of 6 in 6 months. LED spots outside last a couple years.

In my own experience, for the money, there is no good substitute for the old filament bulbs outlawed by the shrub!

One of my headaches at work was the fire EXIT sign lightbulbs, They burn 24x7, and would burn out every 6-8 months. Power company had a rebate to change to LEDs- wound up costing the company $5 per sign to have the LED signs installed, 4 years now, still burning. No maintenance costs at all.

Chme, sorry for the disagree my fat fingers get carried away sometimes . Local power company had a deal going two years ago to replace bulbs in local fire departments at discount price .Cost us like $500 to have them retrofit all our signage and building lites to led . Energy costs dropped a couple hundred per month. Worth doing .

We recently had two LED ceiling cans go bad after eight years. One went out and the other on dimmed. I couldn't figure out how to change them and was afraid they were hard-wired in. Hired an electrician. So it cost me $300 to change a lightbulb, LOL!
Turns out you replace the whole fixture, and it is held in by spring arms. Now that I know how to change them I can do it myself, so it was money well spent.
The replacement ones have a slider switch to allow you to set any "temperature" setting you want. That's really nice.

Can light style LEDs are far from being the long life devices they advertise them to be. I have been replacing them at about 1 yr life span. I am not impressed with their longevity, but they don't drink a lot of juice, so that is nice, I guess.

It depends a lot on if they are the bulb type or Cree lights on a circuit board. Crees last a LOT longer than bulbs.

I replaced the spot light type bulbs in the cans with regular LED bulbs in my basement. Fairly bright and fairly cheap. Haven't had to replace any yet 3 years later.

My 2 cents
None have even came close to the advertised life they brag about
Buti i do like output vs watts compared to the older light bulbs and the daylight versions do light up a room a log brighter vs the soft white or other similar versions
I am sure we have 99.9 % in the house and out buildings all led now including the shop lights
I just tossed out a bunch of the early sprial led lights the seemed to get way to hot and burn out way to soon

Anyone compared real life "lifespans" of CFL versus LED bulbs?
My CFL`s are averaging about 3 to 4 years. At 6 to 8 watts consumed each......plus being pretty cheap when on sale at Lowes(approx. $1.50 each in packs of 8)........they're a good deal.
BTW.......I still keep a good supply of 75W incandescent types for my "dry box". 😀

I too have replaced all our incan. bulbs with led's. I have noticed the difference with our power bill.

One other GOOD reason to change out incandescent bulbs........
The light bulb sockets will now last forever. The small brass rivet....through the aluminum screw socket bottom.....will not loosen(and also being dissimilar metals.....look closely to see the small burn ring around the brass rivet) due to no 60 watts(0.5 amps) being passed through. Now.....only about 0.067 amps flow through.
No more flickering light bulbs!!
BTW.........if you already have the "small burn rings"...........too late. The new lower current will be even less likely to conduct. Years ago I had fun changing out all six sockets, in the fixture over our kitchen table.

I have a multi switch in my basement bathroom that has an automatic motion setting to turn the lights on when someone (or something) enters the dark room. When I replaced the old standard incandescent bulbs with LED's the darn lights would come on in "STROBE' mode in that setting!! I felt like I was having a pscyhodelic flashback from the 60's!!
I get the same thing happening with my motion sensing outdoor lights by the front door to the house.

This one's been burning over 100 Years😲
Not an LED, Not china made either. Legend is the guy who made it went bankrupt because the bulbs worked too good
