Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot slammed Jussie Smollett on Thursday and said the former “Empire” actor’s sentence for faking a hate crime should send a message to others who’d make bogus claims.
“The criminal conviction of Jussie Smollett by a jury of his peers and today’s sentencing should send a clear message to everyone in the City of Chicago that false claims and allegations will not be tolerated,” Lightfoot said in a statement after Smollett was sentenced to 150 days in jail by a Chicago judge.
“The malicious and wholly fabricated claim made by Mr. Smollett resulted in over 1500 hours of police work that cost the City over $130,000 in police overtime,” she went on. “The City feels vindicated in today’s ruling that he is being held accountable and that we will appropriately receive restitution for his actions.”

It will be interesting to see how many days he actually serves of the 150 day jail sentence. I worked in and around the court system in Illinois for many years. It is not unusual to see a sentence cut in half or reduced depending on crowding issues in the facility.

The judge told him, half of the time off, with good behavior. So he will probably serve 75 days. That really seems like a light sentence for such a vicious crime.

Talk about pulling a rabbit out of the hat, he's got a few smart lawyers claiming one can't be punished twice for the same crime, which is correct. I think some DA and Judge screwed up at some point but that's a prime example of our......"criminal justice" system we live under.
