Never had buck fever in my life and I have harvested several big bucks, even let a few walk.
I must be crazy or something.
I guess the best answer I could give is don't think about it.

In the place that i grew up in Louisa County, Virginia if you got Buck Fever and missed a Buck the Uncles and their friends would chase you down and cut your shirt tails off.-----Ray

I grew up in southern VA as well. A lot of the folks in my area seemed to use hefty doses of alcohol to "cure" their buck fever. Coupled with the chain-smoking and gallons of coffee, the mix-mash result was usually a frenzied hail of bullets in every direction when the dogs come out of the thicket chasing....well, anything! Took me about a milli-second of those shenanigans to realize I wanted no part of dog-hunting, and no part of hunting with with folks I don't know. 30 years later and I'm still sticking to that.

Frogdog, same here. Louisa is Central Virginia. Never remember any alcohol but in my early life I soured on road hunting and hunting deer with dogs and shotguns. I saw far too many wounded deer.-----------------------Ray

Take your rifle with you in the off season and aim at any deer you see. Get used to looking at them through a scope. Once it becomes a familiar thing you'll be cured. Also if nothing else remember to squeeze the trigger.

I am too busy making sure I have perfect shot placement and proper trigger control to get buck fever until after the bullet leaves the barrel.

I think seat time in a tree stand during bow season cures it fairly well. By the time gun season is here, I've been close to so many deer, all I think of is shot placement as Bruce alluded to.
The first two weeks of bow season are boring, but necessary for scouting. I never harvest a deer until the third week.
I am not a trophy hunter so antlers don't help make my decision, I look for body size. I've been distracted by antlers many times, but they always seemed to be on scrawny bucks.
