Angie's List -- Don't
If you've seen the TV ads for Angi (formerly Angie's List) in which they say they'll set you up for local repair experts and you were thinking of using them...don't.
I had a minor electrical job I did not want to tackle, so I went online and set up an appointment for an electrician through Angi. The first red flag was that I was not told what company would show up. When they did arrive, it was in an unmarked pickup truck. Two guys came to the door. I asked for ID and they had nothing other than the job assignment on a phone. No proof of license. They described themselves as "freelance electricians." They looked at the job and left to get replacement parts. When they returned and did the job, I had to reimburse them for parts (which I expected to do as part of the agreement) but they could not accept a credit card, only cash.
If it had not been a very minor job, I would be extremely concerned that work was not up to code, and I'd have no idea of who was responsible. Any larger job and I would have refused to allow them in the house, quite frankly. If I had turned them away, however, I would still have been liable for the full cost estimate, per Angi's online contract.
There are NO reviews on the Angi website, and no place to post one. In hindsight, that should have told me all I needed to know. That's why I'm posting this: to save any of you the risk.

I’ve had good luck with Angie’s.
I found it strange that Angie’s charges for every phone number they give to a tradesman, regardless of whether the tradesman gets the job or not.

When I retired, I got a lot of calls from Angi and other similar services wanting to send me electrical jobs. I told them I was retired but they kept calling.
I don't plan to renew my Masters license this time around.

I understand that you are just trying to warn others about your experience with the business mentioned, kinda as a public service if you will and it happens a lot here in the forums... I am not deleting this post at this time, but adding this comment as a reminder to all to reread the guidelines every once in awhile.

I like home advisor because they have lists of you can sort thru and check ratings, then contact who you want and its always been free.
