question about firearms and cartridges
are there countries outside the soviet bloc that manufacture AK's and the ammo for them. i just wonder who could supply Ukraine if they had the resources to buy them.

Yes every ex-soviet bloc country made weapons and ammo, plus they are made in several Arab country's.
Did you know Iran make H&K G3's to this day. They were licenced by the West Germans when the Shah was still incharge back in the early 70's and still make them today along with Coka Cola. Its called toka cola now and is pretty good.

thank you Mark. maybe i should have ask my question differently. are any of these countries capable of making enough weapons to make a difference if they would sell to the ukrainians.

I have shot just about every variation of the AK-47/AKMS in 7.62x39 and IMO the CZ AKMS is the best rifle and East German ammo is the best ammo/most accurate. The older Chinese and Soviet milled guns shoot really good too.
The old saying that an AK never jams is a bunch of hog wash. I cannot tell you how many of them I have seen jammed up in the hands of a dead guy. Granted the guns were filthy but they were jammed.

When the old eastern bloc nations joined NATO their first duty was to adopt the 5.56mm STANAG cartridge. Once that was accomplished, those same nations placed many tens of thousands of 7.62X39 caliber rifles into storage. Some of those rifles were later sold to Third World armies, while other rifles were cut up for parts and shipped to the USA where new receivers, barrels and compliance parts were added as a means to beat the '89 Bush Ban on imported military style rifles.

Large manufacturer of them here is SC. Just sent them a request to see if they can figure out how to get some of their AK's to Ukraine.

i took no offense but i didnt quite understand the response to an honest question. my follow up to the replies is: when Biden cut off imports of Russian arms and ammo the prices on our local market exploded as if they were the only supplier. so, i was wondering if there were other major manufactures of those types of arms. i dont own any ak's or ar's for that matter so dont follow them that closely. more of a classic arms collector.
